Now that you're familiar with creating visualizations
let's learn how to transform them into insightful dashboards.
Dashboards are made up of multiple visualizations that work together
to create a comprehensive and engaging view of your data.
You can move and resize visualizations in your dashboard.
Edit or hide titles for each visualization.
And insert text fields which can be formatted and repositioned as needed.
Visualizations can be maximized allowing you to emphasize certain data as you see fit.
Notice how the different elements in your chart are automatically resized
to match the defined space.
You can also change the location of the legends within each visualization.
You can easily create visualizations for multiple datasets.
Once you have your datasets uploaded into MicroStrategy
click the down arrow in data set objects to choose between your various data sources.
If your datasets have been linked
they will have a blue link icon on top of the attributes symbol.
You can drag and drop attributes and metrics
from your linked datasets
into your new visualizations.
If you want to manually link your attributes
click on the down arrow next to your attribute.
Click on link to and choose the attribute you want to join it to.
Now you will have a richer and more well-rounded understanding of your analysis
by linking all your available data.
A panel is the main analysis area where you will create and interact with your visualization.
Each panel can contain one or more visualization
and you can insert any number of panels to apply different views to your data.
As you add new panels
dots located at the top right will appear and let you navigate through your visualizations.
A layout is a collection of panels.
Add as many layouts as you like.
Rename them.
Or move them around.
For increased usability
MicroStrategy allows you to easily copy visualizations, panels, and layouts
with the copy to
and duplicate drop down options.
You can use any combination of layouts and panels to create neatly organized dashboards.
Filters let you refine your analysis using any criteria you select.
Open the filters pane from the tool bar
drag attributes and metrics to the filters pane
and define your criteria
and adjust the filter behavior.
Include means the visualization will only show the elements you've selected.
Exclude will show all elements except the ones you chose.
Filter will apply at the layout level.
This means you can filter all visualizations and panels under one layout
using the same criteria
and you can insert a new layout if you want to use a new filter.
You can also use visualizations as filters that target other visualizations
within the same panel.
Click on the down arrow next to the visualization you want to use as a filter
and click use as filter.
Then select the graphs you'd like the filtering visualization to target
and then press ok.
Now when you click on an attribute of your filtering organization
it effects the targeted graphs.
Finally you can view your finished dashboards in presentation mode
for a larger and more engaging look at your data and visualizations.
