I just want to talk a bit about 350
For me personally, the whole thing started when I met someone from 350 Cairo -
that person was Sarah
and she explained to me that there's a local group called 350
and they're connected to a global movement
and that 350 locally and globally is working to prevent the collapse of our planet
Today I am here with 350.org on the Global Day of Climate Impacts
at the "Connect the Dots" event in Cairo
The most important thing we're here to talk about is the problem of burning fossil fuels
which is not only causing temperatures to rise, but there are other problems as well
an example of a serious impact that is affecting many places around the world is sea level rise, which is a major threat to the Nile Delta
we can see the impact right now in Ras El Bar - where sea water has already started eating away at the land
Another important example is in the city of Kafr El Sheikh, where salt water and sweet water have started mixing
and this has a negative effect on the local fisheries
I want to explain the number 350
350 ppm is the safe concentration for Carbon Dioxide in our atmosphere
the concentration of CO2 shouldn't exceed 350 ppm because that would be very dangerous for our planet
but right now the concentration is 392 ppm
It's not only Egypt that is impacted, but the whole world as well
We need to spread awareness about this issue
and for anyone willing to take action, follow what 350.org is doing online and offline
Don't underestimate the importance of this issue.
After I talked to the local 350 group, I realized that our world is collapsing around us and we're not even aware of it
and we're the cause of it all
We need to be more aware of what's happening around us
All that I ask of you is that you stay connected to 350.org online - on facebook and twitter- and to be updated with what they're doing
350.org is doing very important work
I am here today because I wanted to do something and help out
I am happy to be a part of the 350 Cairo group
