Hey everyone, this is Anthony coming to you from Preapptastic.com
and today we'll be taking a look at GeoStrings that is available in Palm's App Catalog for 2.99.
GeoStrings is an application that offers a unique method of managing your everyday tasks.
Typical task applications will give you the standard notes
and timed notifications when the task SHOULD be done.
However GeoStrings is designed to track your position
and provide an notification as you start getting closer to a certain location.
The application works with Google Map's services, allowing the user
to easily search for the nearest location and add it to your GeoStrings tasks.
Once the task has been created, the application
will run in the background of your webOS device
and track your location via GPS.
As you start approaching the assigned location,
, the app will sound off with a notification window, displaying your custom message.
The user can easily hit the snooze alarm
or the boomberang icon to keep the task running.
The app offers a decent set of options
for example, create a list of notes,
set the date, day and time when it will run.
The user also has additional options to choose a
location for your task, from entering
your own address,
getting your current whereabouts,
personal and favorite locations.
A task will hold multiple locations,
which will help widen your area to get your task completed.
An easy method to do this is to set a 'Location Group'
This will allow you to assign different locations under one single name.
Simply tap the plus symbol,
create a group name,
tap on the new group and add your locations.
(no audio commentary)
To insert the location group into your task,
tap on the star icon and choose the group you need.
Now your task has been updated with different places.
And the application will alert you
When you're driving near them.
If you're not sure about any chosen location
you can tap the map icon that will launch the Google maps
application and show you exactly where that place is located.
If it's what you need, tap the star icon to add it to your list of favorite locations.
The preferences section allows the user to set the default
values, such as the units of distance,
notifications sounds and snooze times.
It also offers some visual customization
by choosing a different background image and color.
The learning curve is not too steep
and the developer has created a series of training videos
to help get the user started.
There is another set of video's called GeoString Tales
which will help you better understand how this application works.
For example, the developer explained how the application
can be used to remind you that there is road work ahead
and take the nearest detour before wasting
a trip to re-discover that the road
ahead is closed.
The application deserves an 8 out of 10
it delivers a unique experience to organize your
tasks with easy navigation and detailed video guides.
This isn't an application to replace your preferred task manager
but I highly recommend this application
if you're always on the road
and the application does deliver positive results.
