I'll be making a ruffled scarf
using double crochet.
I'll be using this
new yarn which almost looks like fabric. It's a mesh
and in order to make it,you'll have to
open the mesh up as you work along.
I'm starting with a G hook.
We're going to go from the back to the front. You always
work along the top edge.
The measurements are about an inch. For me it's from my knuckle to the end of my finger.
But you do not have to be exact. You'll begin to eyeball it as you become more comfortable.
----
I went through the back to the front on that loop,
and now I'm going from the front to the back.
So I have two loops on my hook.
I'm going to grab another loop and pull it through as we have our beginning loop ready to go.
This first row is going to be single crochets.
I come from the back to the front
go down about an inch,
grap another loop and pull it through the two loops on the hook.
----
That's my first single crochet.
Each row will be six stitches
and you will have to count to make sure you keep the rows consistent.
I'll do another single crochet.
----
I have to keep opening the net.
Work the front to the back.
Or I should say from the back to the front
and from the front to the back. I'm grabbing that loop and pulling it through.
Again, back to front,
front to back.
Pulling it through the two loops on the hook.
Don't worry about the stitches being beautiful or consistent. They aren't going to be.
Front to the back,
back to the front.
Pull it through.
----
I'll do two more stitches.
Back to the front,
front to the back, grab it and pull it through those two stitches.
----
Back to the front,
front to the back, grab it and pull it through those two.
Let me see - do I have six stitches?
I've got - one, two, three, four, five and six.
I have six single crochets.
Like I said, each row will be six stitches. From now on, they will be double crochets.
But do count.
As we are going up the side, we're going to do one chain stitch
which is a normal chain stitch
----
Grab a loop and pull it though the loop on the hook.
Turn.
Now we're going to be working the double crochets.
From the back to the front grab a loop.
We're going through the top of the first single crochet.
----
Of course, all the other rows will be double crochets.
----
Go over an inch,
grab a loop
and pull it through.
----
You now have three loops on your hook, just as you would if you were doing
----
a normal double crochet.
Go down an inch,
grab it and pull it through two loops on the hook.
Go down an inch,
grab the loop
and pull it through two loops on the hook.
You now have a double crochet.
I'll work a couple more.
Come from the back to the front to put that loop on your hook.
Now we go through the top two loops
----
of the single crochet in this row, double crochet in all the other rows.
Go down an inch,
grap a loop, pull it through.
You have three loops on the hook.
Just repeat.
Grap a loop, pull it through two loops on the hook.
----
----
Grab a loop and pull it through those two loops on the hook.
Like I said, it's not going to be
the perfect neat double crochets that you're used to when you crochet normally.
However,
it really makes a beautiful ruffle.
----
You continue doing your six double crochets down this row.
Still just chain one up along the edge.
Because these are awfully loose,
you really don't have to work the two that you would normally work
if you were working a normal double crochet.
Just chain of one up,
turn the row and repeat the process of working the double crochets,
six double crochets across.
Continue working until you have finally used up all the fabric.
If you take a break, make sure you secure that loop, either with your hook
----
or some type of safety pin to hold it.
This will not unravel as easily as the Afghan stitch, but it is important to
secure it.
You'll see when you are finished, you'll have a beautiful, thick ruffled scarf.
----
One skein of this particular fabric works to about thirty-six inches
which is a nice
----
short scarf.
If you want a longer scarf,
just continue working.
I've got the loop at the end here and I'm just going to add another skein.
I'll continue working because I like a nice long scarf.
----
When I'm finished, I will take and secure this loop.
----
back over the core with needle and thread sewing it securely.
Again, you'll have yourself a gorgeous
boa-type
ruffled scarf.
