Hi i'm Karl this is our classroom and we meet here for an hour every morning.
at 10.30 we all go on our placements
Hi i'm Leanne and I work in the children's outpatients... from half 10 until half 2 and
I really enjoy coming here because it's a great experience.
I have to do some filing, some making the care plans up for the nurses, and then recent
job that I've been doing is folding the paperwork up and putting it into envelopes to be sent
off to the different medical officers.
Hello I'm Neil Willows, i'm the senior employment officer for Pure Innovations. I spent quite
a lot of time matching students abilities with the skills required for the job. We did
some small exercises didn't we Leanne?
Yep, we sure did.
Yeah, and we got some post it notes and some figures and Leanne did some tests and then
she got up her confidence that I knew she had the right skills to do that job. And the
feedback from Leanne's working has been excellent.
Hi i'm Reece and I work at the Elective Surgical Unit and in the morning when I first come
in, I fill the wardens up and I've got this treatment room and I enjoy giving the tea
and coffee out to the patients because it gets me socialising with the patients as well
as my other colleagues. I fill up all the paper towels in the toilets, I give out menus
for the following day and the people that we've got on this course are amazing teachers,
job coach, the employment officer and all the staff in the hospital have been very very
helpful.
It's a pleasure to work with Reece, he's absolutely fantastic, he's got really good social skills,
talks to the patients don't you? You're really helpful.
Yeah
Yeah, it's a pleasure to work with him
Every Friday I go to a youth club with one of my colleagues from the classroom. A young
girl called Leanne and they have halloween parties, Christmas parties i think they're
going to have and it's always very fun.
We all like him very much and even the auxiliaries would like to keep you on, wouldn't we? And
you'd like to stay here wouldn't you?
Yeah, and work here.
Hi, my name is Jack and I work in patient experience. One of the jobs that I like doing
is collecting the patient feedback forms. When I get back to the office I like to input
the data. I also do some photocopying, laminating,
One of Jack's roles is to collect the feedback cards. We suggested that he could have a go
at inputting information onto the computer, and he is so good at it that he now does it
on a regular basis now. He's very good at working through things systematically, being
accurately with data.
I also put addresses on envelopes, I come to work on the bus and can do this because
I'm doing travel training.
Hi i'm Clyde and I'm working in the kitchen. I'm enjoying it and I like doing the cheese and biscuits in
the coat room and I also like working in the other parts and doing the pot washing and
the bananas and the sandwiches. I have enjoyed being on the scheme and I like doing the pot
washing and the cleaning, I was late a couple of times and
Hi i'm Shelley and i've been working with Clyde for the last couple of weeks. He's been
helping us out in the kitchen, he's been helping us out doing some stuff in the salad prep
rooms, putting salads together, making up cheese and biscuits and then he's come out
on the belt area and helped us with prepping sweets and also serving the lunch time meals.
Nice to have him around.
Hi i'm Yusuf, I work as a domestic assistant. the best thing I like doing is cleaning the
bathroom, I like cleaning the sink and I like cleaning the beds and the curtain poles. The
people in the hospital are pleasant, kind, respectful, having a laugh, having a joke
and everything. They always say i'm a good worker and I work hard so much for them, at
first I was shy talking to the patients but now i'm much better than before. Now actually
I don't know what I say to them but now i'm just talking to them.
Hi i'm Lyndsey, i've been working alongside Yusuf and I think he's a really hard worker,
he's doing really well and the scheme is really good for him. i think its a really good scheme
because he's getting confidence each day, and he's learning new things each day and
he's interacting with different people.
I've made lots of friends in the hospital, I'm really glad I came to the scheme and I'm
really enjoying it.
Hi my names Denzil and I work in the laundry. We put the washing in the machines, then we put
it in the dryers. Next i would like to try being a domestic.
He's quite a nice guy to work with aren't you? Very polite, very well mannered and with
him being tall, he can reach up on top of the cages where I can't, I have to stretch,
so I get Denzil to do all of that.
Hi, my name is Rumbi, I work at the children's outpatients on work experience, I make sure
that the consultation rooms are nice and tidy for the doctors and parents with their children.
I also make phone calls to medical records to see if they've got any notes for children's
outpatients. I enjoy working here because the nurses here are very caring people. Leanne
is my close friend because I enjoy being in the same classroom as her and also spending
time with her at break or at dinner. i also enjoy working with the lads in my group, in
our group sorry. it's always nice to meet new people.
Rumbi has been an asset since she's been here. Any task that you give her, she'll do it very
well, and when she come back, she gets on with what she left behind before.
Hello i'm Richard and i'm working in outpatients. I go out into the waiting room, call patients
in and take them to the doctor, I make photocopying when they need it, I clean trolleys, I make
cup of teas for the doctors and learn how to act in the workplace, it's like timekeeping,
how to speak to patients in the right way.
My name is Shaunagh Katrycz and i'm a respiratory nurse specialist at Tameside Hospital. One
day, Richard appeared obviously and we are eternally grateful for Richard. One of the
most important jobs we have is to provide nebulisers for our asthmatic patients in the
community, this means that these nebulisers have to be de-contaminated which is a time
consuming job and none of us really have that time to do it, we have to be in front of the
patients, so Richard came along, did this fantastic job, much better than I could do
and now we have named him 'The Nebuliser King'.
Hi i'm Kyle and i'm working as a porter. At the moment i'm doing food movement which is
the patients meals. Yeah in March i'll be doing like patients movement, so i'd like
to learn that, it will be interesting to find that out.
My names Ian Moss, i'm a porter and i've been working with Kyle. I think he's a smashing
lad, he gets stuck in with the best of us. he's been helping us with the rubbish and
the meal trolleys and I think its a positive outcome what you're doing, and I hope he gets
a position at the end of it all.
Its good working with me because we can have serious time where you've got to work and
then you can like have a laugh and giggle during spare time. We had our Christmas do
with the lads and the porters and we went out for a few drinks, had a game of killer
pool and just had some darts so that was quite fun. My confidence has grown up more, like
built up a lot more. I was quite shy, you wouldn't think it, but I was quite shy when
I first came here. Hopefully I get a job out of this and I can be a long running member
of the portering lot.
