The Master in Music Performance and Investigation at the VIU
is a postgraduate course at the Valencian International University.
It enables people to gain a higher music qualification in one of two tracks:
investigation or performance.
It is a pioneering experience and the teachers initially felt very excited,
but also a bit unsure about it.
But the experience has been really incredible.
The students have been committed from the start.
We’ve been able to teach even better than we would have in face to face classes.
The Master has manged to produce some impressive results…,
as you can see clearly in Nobuko’s concert.
Many people never had this opportunity before.
When I studied my master I had to get a grant to go abroad to do it.
Now it’s possible to do it from your own home and if you live in Castellón
you can also come and enjoy the concerts which is a really enriching experience.
One of the most innovative aspects of the teaching methodology
are the practical sessions for players of the violin, viola, cello and piano.
Students get the possibility to play in concerts with world-renowned professionals
who also give practical tutorials: like Ilya Gruber on the violin.
Nobuki Imai on the viola.
Lluís Claret on the cello.
and Brenno Ambrosini on the piano.
There are also invited artists working professionally in different orchestras and music groups.
The different concerts and performances undertaken during these external placements
are recorded and are available to all students on the VIU’s digital teaching platform.
Doing this master in viola performance has been magnificent.
It’s been a great privilege to study with the teachers on the course.
The 25th October 2011 saw one of these concerts hosted in Castellón’s Cultural Centre.
The students studying the viola shared the stage with Nobuko Imai,
one the world’s most respected, award-winning violaists.
Working on the concert, as well as the theory and practical classes with Nobuko Imai
has been fantastic and we’ve learned so much,
both in our private classes and in the group ones. All in all a really satisfying experience.
Teachers from the Master join with professional musicians from:
the Salvador Segui Conservatory in Castellón and the Superior Conservatory of Valencia,
the National Orchestra of Catalonia, the Conservatory of Aragon,
the Queen Sofia College of Music, Madrid, the Valencia Municipal Orchestra,
the Conservatory of Avilla, the Superior Conservatory of the Balearic Islands
and the Queen Sofia Chamber Orchestra from Madrid.
It’s possible that I felt even more relaxed than I’ve ever felt before.
It’s always a pleasure to play with… to share musical experiences with such people.
This happens with friends generally, but here there is a special bond between us.
Its such an honour and pleasure. In music there shouldn’t be any type of hierarchy.
If I sense this is happening, I prefer not to share those moments with anyone.
This is imperative for me.
