Hello world! Welcome to another video about the news around the Ubuntu 13.04, Raring Ringtail.
This time we'll talk about icons, but about more online Dash results also.
Starting by the icons: Matthieu James reavealed
icons for the Dash navigation bar, giving it a more rounded look.
The Applications category icon makes more sense now, and combines with the new Software Centre/Updater icon.
Now let's talk about the polemic commercial results
in the Dash. In Ubuntu 13.04 the scope (which is the search engines that grab
the online results do Dash) will be increased in quantity and will be smarter, showing the results
according to the relevance based on a ranking, and
balanced with the local results. It will be possibly to buy commercial items
directly in the Dash, including the payment, through Ubuntu One.
Furthermore, it's intended to expand the commercial results, covering more retailers.
Other feature being studied by the developers, is more user control over de Dash,
for example searching filters for local and global searchs.
The blog post in Canonical blog referring to this news also reiterates that the objective of the Dash
is to provide the fastest and slickest way to find things directly from the home ambient,
indepent if it's on the web, local, is free or commercial.
Canonical also says that tests reaveal that this unified and integrated search system
is the best user experience to the majority of users, and the best experience
will be always implemented in Ubuntu. About privacy, Canonical declares that
this is super important, and the data collected by the Dash automatically turns anonymous,
and make the users conscient about which data and
where they are sent, through the Legal Notice. Furthermore, it's provided to the users a switch
to disable online searching. Thanks for watching, and untill the next video.
