As you may know, Zimbabwe may have elections in 2012.
And for us the key issues are how to ensure that those elections
are genuinely free and fair, and democratic. And how to ensure that we have
strong democratic institutions and that our security forces do not interfere
in our political and civilian affairs.
We are happy that our regional bloc, SADAC, the Southern
African Development Community, is very clear and insists that Zimbabwe's
elections must be free and fair; must comply with the regional minimum
standards for the conduct of democratic elections; and relations around
transfer of power.
We are hopeful that the international community will support a certain consensus,
and move swiftly to ensure that there is stability,
peace and development in Zimbabwe.
