Take advantage of the competition, it's something different, it's a
challenge It's nothing like being in work, it's just totally outlandish,
it's hard to describe It's an opportunity to just show off basically, and
you can't ask for more than that, it's just good fun.
I'm a head of year at Wallingford School, head of year 10, so key stage 4
Their all kind of 14 to 15 years old, they've just started GCSE's, just
at the beginning of kind of making important choices, so were trying to
really encourage the people in my year group the young people, to think
about what they are aspiring to be when their older and to kind of
increase their knowledge about what options there are, and what's
available to them and how they go about achieving what they want to achieve
Rather than just hearing from teachers and us talking theoretically
about what they could go on to do, actually them seeing people in the job
them obviously having a go at things I think will be really important
today and I'm hoping should kind of inspire them but I think generally is
the exposure to lots and lots of different things and then kind of
realising that there are lots and lots of choices out there.
PWC wanted to have a professional services competition because ultimately
Historically, people have viewed the only way to get into firms like PWC
is through an academic route so do you're A-levels, on to university and
then apply as an graduate, we are very keen that people come to
understand that yes that's one way but there are alternatives and
primarily with regards to this you can become an apprentice you can join
a high apprenticeship within professional services and join PWC at 18 to
ultimately move into either audit or tax or management consultant.
Well I think for the competitors its really important that we mirror in a
pressure test and in kind of a high pressure environment just what it
will be like in the international competition, there's so many visitors
here and I think what's important is that they get inspired as well, its
great to see school kids, college kids and really tiny tots, kind of
walking past being wowed by the skills on show.
It's really not about winning or losing its just about showing what you
love to do and just being here and meeting new people, meeting new
contacts and just seeing how everyone else does things and it's a huge
experience for anybody really so anyone, anybody should do this no matter
what really, I reckon, anybody should enter.
I just want to challenge myself and have go and see if I can be better
than I thought I could be because I want to be the best I can, I want to
do more, be more and that's why I here. I mean last year I was the only
girl in the competition, this year we've got three, and if you look hard,
my company's stand here and most of us are girls and it is definitely
changing, it is for anyone, it is quite a nice thing when someone asks me
that question because you can inspire so many people by showing them a
different stereotype, something out of the ordinary, something that they
think I had no idea I could do that and that's what I like about this
place. It tells kids from very young ages you can be anything and I think
that's something you should take from this week and from every other
competition as well.
