The Galaxy Gear - the latest offering from Samsung, designed to heat up the market for
wearable tech. It's been labelled the intelligent device on our wrist that connects our bodies
to data and us to the world. Make a call, email.. take a picture. Samsung's CEO JK SHIN
says it is the ultimate fashion item. "It gives you crystal clear tangible display and
ultimate productivity in a beautiful package." However, it has to be connected to an Android
smartphone or tablet. A turn off for customers? Possible says CNET's Scott Stein. People are
not going to want to lock it up with one phone. They probably want it to work throughout their
entire home or with a variety of devices." The price tag of 300 dollars may also be a
turn off. But afficionados and gadget makers reckon the demand will increase. So does financial
services firm Credit Suisse. It estimates there is 50 billion dollars in the wearable
devices market by 2017. Samsung reckons this will lead a new trend in mobile communications.....and
help ditch many cumbersome functions of a smartphone.
