Sarah: I'm Sarah, and this is my almost-wife, Casey, and this is our wedding day.
Casey: We wanted to make an It Gets Better video because we both have different stories
growing up, especially being an LGBT youth. We know how hard it can be. And we just wanted
to share our story and just really reiterate that it really does get better.
Sarah: And I grew up in a very conservative household and I went to a college where I
had to sign a paper saying that I would not practice homosexuality. And when I came out
in college, I knew that if anyone knew, I could lose my education, I could get kicked
out of school... and so it was a very lonely and frightening time for me. But then I came
to Wisconsin and I met Casey and she just helped me become who I am -- helped me realize
who I am -- and just gave me so much more confidence. And I feel so blessed and so lucky
to be marrying her today.
Casey: I had somewhat of a similar story, but for me, I just had a hard time -- especially
in high school -- trying to define myself, my gender identity, my *** orientation.
And I just came to realize eventually that you just need to create your own labels for
yourself, not to let anyone else tell you who you are. I was in a number of closeted
relationships that were really suffocating, so I know what that closet feels like. And
we just really wanted to tell everyone that, you know, even if you think it doesn't get
better or life's not worth living, it really, really is.
Sarah: And I just know that the way I feel today and how happy I am... it's worth pushing
through it and just fighting, because we're just so happy and so, so excited to be here
Casey: And we never thought we'd have a wedding with 100 people, friends and family that loved
us here -- supporting us -- that we'd be able to have a wedding and get married. It's been
amazing. So, yeah... It Gets Better!
Sarah: It Gets Better!
