Welcome to the Multimedia Impact Weather Briefing for Central Alabama. Today is Sunday, March
2nd, 2014. This briefing will focus on a small potential for some freezing rain across the
far northwestern 5 counties overnight Sunday night through Monday morning.
So here is the setup, a cold front will slide through tonight, bring showers and thunderstorms
across the area. Ahead of the front temperatures are going to be in the upper 60s to low 70s!
As we work through the overnight hours, the colder temperatures will begin to work into
the far northwestern counties. Question is how far south does the freezing mark make
it before the rain is out?
For now we are expecting the freezing mark, ~ 32 degrees F, to make it to southern Lamar
central Fayette and far northern Walker counties. This would put our northwestern 5 counties
in an area in which freezing rain could occur after 5 am through about 10 am. What impacts
will we see? Well the good news is that the ground temperatures are quite warm and the
air temperatures once again this afternoon will be in the upper 60s to low 70s. You will
need to monitor road conditions Monday morning to see if there are any issues through the
ALDOT website.
