This tutorial will be a crochet scarf using the tunisian simple stitch
I will be using Red Heart, Boutique Ribbons
the pattern on the yarn label is a knit scarf
so i thought, well what can I do in crochet so I decided
that I would use
the tunisian simple stitch
and if you look close this is going to be a pattern
that is reversible
so this is the front side
and you can see how the stitches are vertical
and this is the back side
and you can see the stitches
take on a horizontal shape
so you can use either side. I will be using one skein
Each skein has 48 yards 38 meters. It is 100 gram ball of yard.
I am going to be using a very large crochet hook. This is a hook I bought years ago
and I think it is a size Q. I'm just not positive of the size
because there is no reference lettering on the the crochet hook.
The scarf is approximately 4.5 inches across 12 centimeters
I'm going to take the loose end and make a slip knot and i'm going to do
do it the same way I make the other slip knot. Wrap it over the main
strand and now I have a loop
Take the loop, fold it over the main strand
Put my hook below the center strand and back up the opposite side and this creates the slip knot.
I'm going to be working with a chain of 5
and this does not have to be tight
just make them as loose as you can make them. One
two
three
four
five
I'm going to put my hook
through the next loop..just like that
wrap the yarn over, pull through
leave the loop on the hook
put your hook through the next loop
wrap the yarn over
pull through
and it may get a little messed up but that's okay
put your hook
below the next loop, wrap the yarn over, pull through
that's number four
put your hook through the next loop, wrap the yarn over
put through this is number five
We have five loops on the hook
wrap the yarn over
you'll pull out through the first loop
that's our first stitch
and we're taking them back off if you remember there are two passes with the
tunisian simple stitch
wrap the yarn over
pull through two loops
and you don't need to work it tight
wrap the yarn over
pull through two
wrap the yarn over
pull through two
wrap the yarn over
pull through two
this completes
the first row
if you look right here
you'll be able to see each
vertical bar
since we are working with a large crochet hook
you shouldn't have any problems
seeing where to put your hook with this yarn
wrap the yarn over
pull through
put your hook through the next loop
wrap the yarn over
pull through
put your hook through the next loop
wrap the yarn over
pull through
and when we are working the last
stitch
and I want to work
below these two loops on the side like that
this is going to give it stability
wrap the yarn over
pull through
we have five loops on the hook again
wrap the yarn over
pull through one loop
wrap the yarn over
pull through two
yarn over
pull through two
yarn over
pull through two
yarn over
pull through two
this is what it looks like on the back side
this is what it looks like on the front side. Put your hook through the vertical
bar
yarn over
pull through
put your hook below the next vertical bar
wrap the yarn over
pull through
put your hook below the next vertical bar
yarn over
pull through
now we are to the side
and I'm putting my hook
below the two loops like this
yarn over
pull through
we have five loops on the hook
yarn over
pull through one loop
yarn over
pull through two
yarn over
pull through two
yarn over
pull through two
yarn over
pull through two
you will continue working
for the length
of the scarf
until it is complete
I'm to the edge putting below
the two loops and do the best that you can
it may be challenging to see at some point
as I mentioned previously were working with a very large crochet hook so you
should be able to see this
this is the back
this is the front
yarn over
pulled through one-loop
yarn over
pull through two
yarn over
pull through two
yarn over
pull through two
yarn over
pull through two
at this point I have approximately forty six inches
of scarf completed I have almost at that end
of my yarn
and I'm still continuing
adding rows
to my scarf
I'm putting my hook
below the two loops
at the edge
like that
yarn over pull through
yarn over pull through one
yarn over pull through two
yarn over pull through two
yarn over pull through two
yarn over pull through two
I am to my last few inches of yarn
now I'm going to work
a single crochet
below
the vertical loops
across each loop
to finish off the final row
that's number two
three.....four.....five
I'm going to yarn over and pull through and I don't have very much left
just like that
tug
and this completes my scarf
now we need to sew in the tails
we don't want to leave them hanging out
working on the back side and I'm going to weave
this tail through the stitches like this and I am using a smaller
crochet hook
I'm only going to pull it through
a few loops I just want it to blend in
I'm pulling it through
this loop right here and then
I'm going up here
and I'm going to pull it through here just one more time like that
if you look right here
you can see these little strands of thread
and iIm going to
free these up
like this
I'm going to loop this loop through like this
and going to make and knot
and tie it around like this
I want to make sure it's secure
we don't want this to come apart
but we don't want the knot standing out either
so we just
kind of want it to blend in
I'm going to pull
this down
and through right there
and I'm going to make one
more knot just like that
and I'm going to pull it between
a couple of loops here and hide it
so do the best that you can
with hiding his
now you can't even see it
so it just kind of blends in there on the back side or whatever side you want to use
you will do the same thing with the opposite side. I am
open for suggestions if any of you have a better way of sewing in these tails
please let me know leave a comment in the comments section below
with your ideas of sewing in tails working with yarn like this
this is a working as well
and I'm looping
through the strands down here
and then looping over my crochet hook and pulling it through
and knotting it this way
and that seems to be working pretty well
and securing the yarn in place
and so I've looped this one at the beginning all the way across the bottom
on the back side
and so when I'm done
it's all nice and secure
I have several different knots that I have looped across the bottom
like that
