Marketing to me has always been a very creative side to business. It's of course based in
traditional business practices and everything boils down to the numbers but it also gives
you the opportunity to be a bit more creative and innovative within different structures.
Definitely within brands you have the opportunity to do some really fun, creative things and
you get the opportunity to work with everyone across the business because it's a very cross-functional
role. I chose RMIT because of the industry based learning, the applied part of my degree
that we do a year out working within industry, I've learnt so much and met so many people
and it was absolutely critical in securing my graduate role. In marketing we did a lot
of group assignments and we're working with people across all different disciplines within
business so that was one of my favourite things kind of getting different expertise and different
knowledge working in a group to develop a project or an assignment that was comprehensive
and not just purely focused on marketing but also really business focused. The reason I
studies marketing was to bring together what I was good at and what I had a passion for.
So through high school I was really passionate about arts subjects such as media studies
and graphic design but my abilities were in mathematics and English so marketing was a
way to bring those two sides together. RMIT offered the co-op program in the third year
of our marketing degree and I think this was a really good option for me to gain industry
experience and have networking opportunities before I had even graduated in a supportive
environment as well which was really good and that's where I'm working now so clearly
it's of benefit.
