Zsolt V. Né*** State Secretary for Rural Development:
We are here at Sziget for the third time. Previously, we have regarded this to be
important to show the flavours, smells, savours of the countryside to youth
swarming here not only from Budapest but from all over the world. Now, we
thought it to be important because we are in a planning period right now for
2014-2020, and we can see that the EU – in its documents, strategies until 2020 –
formulates a programme even for agriculture that does not only address
farmers.
Kinga Bata, ecological programme coordinator, MRD: People are very
interested. I think they would really like to know more about this, especially animals
and plants, and everyone had a positive approach. There were many laymen who
didn’t have a clue about anything but wanted to learn, stayed here and listened
to explanations about the quizzes and took a look at the posters to know how certain
species look like.
Zsuzsa Borovka employee, Agricultural Division, MRD: The Agricultural Division
wanted to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity, especially the
protected native and endangered livestock of Hungary as our national treasure. The
thematic choice was also justified by the raising international importance of
protecting biodiversity.
Zsuzsa Horváth employee, MRD: One of our most important tasks is to get
rid of ragweed. We have created many quizzes, flyers about it in both Hungarian
and English as well as games. Another important topic for the Secretariat is the
one of hungaricums. In July 1, the hungaricum act became effective. We
have created quizzes and tests related to that in both Hungarian and English. The
way I see it, these were also successful.
Dávid Mezőszentgyörgyi Secretary-General, HNRN: One can see
behind me that we have prepared a novelty. Based on the current Olimpic Games, we
are organising Rural Olimpic Games. It seems that the initiative appeals to the
audience, to youth coming from mostly abroad, Western Europe. They are trying
out traditional national games, and I think it creates a great buzz for the Hungarian
countryside.
