Using the Analysis of Groups feature, you can define how processes are presented in a chart.
Instead of presenting results per process or product stage,
you can present results per function,
for example: transport, energy, production, and so forth.
You can use the Analysis of Groups function either from the calculation setup window, or directly from the network tab.
The latter is usually easier, and will be the method we show you in this video.
So, let’s start by analyzing the product stage Life Cycle model Sima (plastic).
At the network tab, click the button Show analysis groups.
You will get a floating window, where in you can define your groups and select processes for each group.
By default, 6 categories, or groups, are shown.
These can be edited or removed, or you could add additional categories.
Depending on your categories and your model,
it can be sufficient to select the top processes of your model.
So let’s examine the top processes of this network.
If you click the button ‘Show input and output flows’ and select the top node,
you will notice that due to the current cut-off percentage, not all inflows are visible.
If you adjust the cut-off to 0.25%, for example,
you will see that all inflows to the top node are now visible.
Now let’s assume that you are the manufacturer of model Sima,
and you want to view the impact of your production, in relation to the whole life cycle of the model Sima.
In that case, you can select, for example, the node Assembly model Sima,
and add it to the group Production;
You can then add electricity to the group Energy;
Household waste NL to the group Waste;
and the nodes Use of a coffee filter and Use of packaging to the group Use.
Finally, using the Save as button, you can save this group selection as calculation setup,
making it easier to use these same settings to analyze again.
If you now go to the tab Impact assessment,
you will have the option to view the Standard results or the Group results.
If you select Group, you will then see the results per category that you have defined earlier.
You can easily switch back and forth between the Standard and Group view.
