>> Ali Warner: The Awake In The World festival is a four day festival of meditation, art,
social vision and its taking place in the center of London.
And Awake In The World is actually saying
that this is part of our life in modern society, that connecting to ourselves
and actually feeling what we are as human beings,
and from there being able to kind of express that. That is a social requirement.
That is living life in modern society.
And these practices that come from deep, from long standing spiritual traditions
are not simply a, you know, simply a religion or something that’s happening along side
or separate to actually living in the modern world.
>> Shannon van Staden: I think we’re going to have a great weekend.
I’m really, really looking forward to it.
>> Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche: These festivals are an opportunity for us to investigate
and to look into and feel inspiration about how we can move together
and forward in this particular way.
So I’m very moved myself by this.
Meditation is a form of actualizing ourselves in the universe. Who are we, what are we doing?
You know, is this worthwhile? Is this is important ?
And so I [inaudible] just like children where we’re... children need a lot of this
being communicated to, and being related to.
So I think as we go... as we get bigger and people become kind of more...
The notion of being anonymous and not being acknowledged,
and the wish to communicate is going to increase.
So my feeling is that there needs to be a level of human communication,
Some kind of valuing human communicating on a simple level;
valuing human communication is valuing humans.
So if we don’t value ourselves, it’s going to be very difficult with someone else.
Mindfulness training has gained more ground, and there is a lot more scientific proof.
And people like to tell me, "You know it is scientifically proven now?".
And I go, "Thank god, that’s good". [laughter] "I am glad I wasn’t wasting my time." [laughter]
What I’ve discovered is there is really nobody in charge of the... what’s happening.
So we’re all... it looks like... we keep thinking somebody is in charge.
So I keep meeting maybe that the one. [laughter]
But so far a few people in prominent positions have met with me
and I realize they’re asking me; [laughter]
which for me is not a good sign. [laughter]
>> Ali Warner: ...to follow your example and I would just like to invite everyone here
to continue on this journey with us; we’re marking Rinpoche’s father tomorrow. (applause]
>> Participant: Electric
>> Jez Taylor: And it's not finished yet. Thank you.
