Welcome to the Learn Special Effects channel on youtube.
Todays lesson in this series of severe lacerations, is the zombie hand.
You start out by adding some off yellow to your hand. I’m using an oil based body paint.
To ad a bit of dimension to your base coat, you can use two different makeup colors.
To make the fingers appear sunken and zombie like, you need to add some makeup next to
you bones. I’m using a red and a blue, to give it a variation of purple shading colors.
Once all the bones are shapes as you desire, it is time to add some latex. This will become
the skin you later are going to rip apart, to make it look like flesh wounds.
Add 2-3 layers of latex, and let them dry in between.
Once the latex is properly cured, scrape the surface with your finger or your tool – be
careful if you are using a pointy object, always use a objet that isn’t sharp.
You can just tare the latex apart, or use what method you find best. I lift it up, and
use my scissor to make a hole. The latex will stick to itself, so to make
the skin look torn and wrinkled, I took the edges, and attached it to itself.
Use some transparent powder, to avoid the latex sticking to itself.
To apply the makeup, I use the skin illustrator on set palette. It’s a 99% alcohol activated
makeup, witch allows me to build up my makeup in layers. I start up by using some olive
green, to make it look even more dead, and apply some reed and brown to the torn skin
arias. To complete the look, I use a stiff pencil, and splatters on some reed, blue and
green on the entire hand.
For the blood, I use some fresh scratch where I want my torn flesh to look deep and brutal.
I also apply some to the nails, to make them look bloody and sore.
The second step is to add some blood paste. This gives the wound a nice 3d texture. The
blood I ad in layers as well. Take something on, and dap it away with some tissue, to make
it look more realistic. Continue these steps until you have your desired
effect.
