She's helped me so much, with the colleges and the
whole common app thing, like, I had no idea
how to do none of that stuff.
I don't know how students last year did it without
Ms. Vasquez. The most helpful so far are the college
guides, like I'd never talked to them before, but once
I seen her, then, I was like, it's a wrap. I have to go
up to her, she's so awesome. She can't leave.

Uh, I like lots of things about being a College Guide.
For me, it's really fulfilling to see a student start off
and be, like, I don't know where to start, where to sign
my name on the application, and then see them
get all of their acceptance letters, that process is really a lot
of fun. But then throughout the year, I get a chance
to share with them my interest in art, and we get a
chance to work on posters together, I get a chance
to see them participate in other activities and other
spaces and I think that's really fun, because I think that's
a relationship that lots of people don't always get a chance
to do. It's not like you have to call me mister all the time,
now you can call me Jorge and I can call you
whatever your name is, and you, know, it's like,
it works out really nicely and so we get to build a relationship
that's on a different level. And I think, in the grand
scheme of things, that's really important for lots of
students development, to be able to say 'I know how to
build relationships with adults.'
The first factor I think you should always look at is
money. Can you afford to do there or not?
Because, if it's going to mean you have to take out
$30,000 of loans every year, that's just an option
you can cross off right away. Once you've looked at
money, and decided of all the schools I've gotten into
which ones are affordable, then it's a trickier decision
and it comes down to a lot of things, like, where is it?
Is it so far away from home that it's going to be a
challenge for you and your family?
I'm proud of you Maverick.
I have to thank you, especially, because without you,
I don't think I would have been able to get into school.
Well, I just helped you to achieve your potential.

The best part of my service is my students. Each of
them is so unique and different in their own way.
They make me laugh.
I believe that everyone deserves a college education.
And not only that, a good college education.
So, I want to provide all the help I can to ensure that
students from backgrounds where they weren't able to
receive as much academic attention, are able to get
the resources so they can apply to good colleges.
