The combination of moist air, a frontal boundary to the east, and a wave of low pressure riding
along it led to the development of showers and thunderstorms across southeast Connecticut.
With these storms, instantaneous rainfall rates upwards of 4 inches per hour were observed.
The slow movement and persistence of the heavy rain led to significant flooding issues around
the town of Norwich, as several locations saw at least 5 inches of rainfall during the
morning and afternoon hours.
Let's go ahead and take a closer look at the storm total rainfall estimates from dual-pol
radar. Indeed, on the northern side of Norwich, estimates indicated an area of over 7 inches!
And 7.88 inches of rain was measured on the north side of the town of Norwich.
