Greetings, my name is Mohamed. I am 18 years old. I live in Cyprus the past 6 years
I left from Iraq, my country, 6 years ago
because of the war. The country was destroyed
and I could not live there
and because there were lots of Cypriots in my country
I heard about Cyprus and decided to come here
In the beginning it was difficult, as I couldn't speak the language, I didn't know anything.
all I new was Cyprus, the name of the country.
Bit by bit, I started making friends, went into a greek school to learn
Cyprus offers me a lot. I feel more safe here in Cyprus
I met a new culture, a different way of life
it was difficult in the beginning to enter such a culture, but after you do you feel a lot safer and you feel good
because Cyprus already has lots of foreigners and you are not alone
secondly, sometimes I might hear a few racist words because I am from a different country, but I dont mind
because I know that most of the people are good and have helped me to learn greek and to offer and to participate in Cyprus
Next year I will be graduating from high-school, and I am thinking to go to college and study, and offer back to the Cyprus society
my message is for everyone to always try and understand the other
and to avoid reacting negatively to other people just because they have a different religion, colour,
or a different language, or anything that might be different, because we are all equal
and we all have equal rights and equal obligations
