Wow! September was a really terrific month for us at ODHH. There were so many
great events for Deaf Awareness Week! I hope you had a chance to attend some
of the events and to learn more about Deaf culture and heritage.
A special thank you to those who attended our Town Hall Meeting at the Hearing and Speech Agency.
We really enjoyed meeting with you and learning about your vision for a more accessible Maryland.

On Saturday, November 10th, Towson University will be hosting two exciting events!
The 2012 MDASLTA Professional Development Conference and the Decade of Deaf Studies Celebration.
MDASLTA, or the Maryland American Sign Language Teachers' Association, is an organization
that believes in quality ASL instruction for the sake of preserving ASL and Deaf culture.
MDASLTA will be holding its third state-wide conference to share state-of-the-art infomation regarding ASL teaching, research and training.
The conference will include key-note speakers, workshops, and entertainment.
Additionally, Towson University will be celebrating its Deaf Studies Department.
Did you know the Deaf Studies program at T.U. was established in 2000? The first class of Deaf Studies students graduated 10 years ago in 2002.
To date, over 350 students have graduated from this program. Ulumni will be able to reunite with former
classmates, friends, and faculty members - eat delicious food, enjoy terrific entertainment,
and hear a great speaker, the President of Gallaudet University.
The event will kick-off with a small reception followed by dinner and entertainment. For those
whose who signing may be "a little rusty", interpreters will be provided. Check out the MDASLTA website
and the Decade of Deaf Studies website to learn more and to register for the events!
Current Maryland law requires that all motor scooter and Moped operators posess a valid driver's license
or a moped operator's permit. Now, there is a new addition to that law requiring that all motor scooters
and Mopeds be titled and insured. All operators and passangers must wear a helmet and eye protection.
All motor scooters must display a title decal on the rear of the vehicle.
This new law takes effect October 1st 2012.
