When I worked as an IT Department manager for a Financial Institution
I setup various systems phone, internet, workstations, servers, etc.
and my job consisted of basic maintenance and support calls.
I automated the maintenance and was able to take most of the calls over the phone.
I asked my boss why they still needed me
and he said that they needed me to be like a fireman
always available for when there are problems.
While I was doing some work on the side
I realized that a lot of small business owners don't have their own IT Guy to rely on.
It's not cost effective to hire a full time IT guy
so they end up paying high retail prices for mediocre services.
Pulling together what funds I had,
I created the DFW IT Department to be an IT Department for small or at home businesses.
Initially our clients were people that I had already done some work for and they needed
some projects done now that I was more readily available.
During our first year,
94% of our new clients came from word of mouth and
86% used our services again within a month
