Welcome back to Newswatch.
A specialized team of engineers, machinists, and designers from eight research centers
are deploying to Afghanistan.
Here's Dennis Neal with the details.
[Neal] The US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command,
or RDECOM, is deploying engineers and scientists to Afghanistan
to more expeditiously and efficiently solve warfighters' technical problems.
Task Force Warrior will become the Army's command center
for science and technology activity for Operation Enduring Freedom.
Deploying scientists to work side by side with soldiers
will alleviate the obstacles created by being 7000 miles
and 10 time zones from the United States,
according to Lieutenant Colonel Duane Amsler,
the RFAST-C Deputy Director.
The intent is to bring those capabilities to the field quicker
by getting it to the right place at the right point in time.
This represents this command
after six years figuring out how to integrate
a combat package on the battlefield
that will collapse time and collapse distance to near zero.
