With e-readers gaining so much in popularity over the past year, it only paves the way
for more devices like the new nReader by BenQ, which launched in Taipei on Wednesday. The
nReader has a 6-inch black and white touchscreen and plays music in addition to displaying
e-books. Users can download books and music to the device's 2 GB of memory using 3G or
WiFi. Hand-writing capability is scheduled to be added in the next model due out in April.
Taiwan's Delta Electronics plans to start marketing a new 13.1-inch color touchscreen
e-reader and an 8.1-inch monochrome touchscreen device. The 13.1 inch e-reader will use Bridgestone's
color electronic paper technology which has a faster refresh rate than current technology
from E-Ink, used in Amazon's Kindle. A faster refresh rate means less time between flipping
virtual pages and opens the door to more multimedia content.
Both devices come with note-taking capability and may have 3G or WiFi added. Currently,
Delta is looking for a subsidiary to sell the devices, but said it also may sell the
e-readers on its own if a partner can't be found. As such, pricing is not yet set on
either device.
