Hi, I'm Tracy O'Connor, your skin care expert.
I'm going to give you some tips to make sure
your eyes sparkle and shine.
The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate
than anywhere else, so you want to be gentle
with your care of the eye area.
There are so many different eye care products on the market,
all claiming to work miracles.
Let's take a look at the most effective ingredients
you want to look for.
Hyaluronic acid keeps your skin cells plump and supple
by drawing moisture from the air into the skin.
Ceramides help maintain that moisture, so look for
a cream that combines the two ingredients.
Retinol is great for stimulating cellular turnover and collagen
production, which translates to reduction in fine lines.
It will make your skin more sun-sensitive,
so be sure to wear your SPF.
It is important to get your vitamins internally from
food and supplements, but also topically, via eye cream.
Vitamins C and E are powerful anti-aging ingredients
that support collagen growth, improve elasticity,
and strengthen and protect your skin.
You don't have to spend a lot of money to get results.
Now that you know what to look for, many inexpensive drugstore
brands have the ingredients you need to care for
the skin around your eyes.
When people ask me about eye care,
there are three main issues that always come up.
Here are some solutions that I've seen work...
First, dark circles.
I can't stress enough how important it is to get enough
sleep -- for your skin, but also for your general well-being.
The truth is, fatigue isn't the only reason for under eye
circles -- allergies, thinning skin and heredity
can all play a factor.
Causes aside, what can you do to fix it?
For an immediate fix, the right concealer
will help hide the circles.
Even better, some brands combine a terrific eye cream
with concealer.
The second biggest eye issue is puffiness.
Puffy eyes seem to be more of an issue as we age, for sure.
It's usually a result of some outside factor -- too much salt,
too much alcohol, things that make us retain water overnight,
but also allergies, lack of sleep,
or not enough water can contribute.
As with most swelling, applying something cold to the area
will reduce the puffiness.
I wrap a bag of frozen peas in a damp towel and rest it
on my eyes for about five minutes.
A lightweight contour gel will also do the trick, especially
if you keep it in the fridge so it's nice and cool to the skin.
And finally, we all want to know what to do about
aging around the eyes.
Number one, adjust your lifestyle.
I keep going back to this, but lifestyle is key.
When she's not on camera, Leighton Meester
gives her skin time off from makeup.
It gives her pores a chance to breathe, and the skin
around her eyes a break from the tugging that goes on
when applying eyeliner, mascara, and shadow.
If you smoke, if you don't get enough rest,
if you aren't hydrating, it will show up on your face,
and particularly around the eyes.
Jennifer Aniston always has a bottle of water with her.
It's the number one beauty tip she always offers.
Number two, find a product that works for you.
Look for products with the ingredients I mentioned earlier,
and use them regularly.
Keep track of what works for you, and toss what doesn't.
Taking good care of the skin around your eyes is easy,
once you figure out a routine that works for you.
I'm Tracy O'Connor, thanks so much for watching.
