in this lesson
we will be learning
how to make
a floating necklace
a floating necklace
is a great style
with a delicate
and elegant appearance
it is called a floating necklace
because you use crimps
to space beads out along the wire
to make the appearance of floating
for this technique
we will be using
the same basic materials
as the basic strung necklace
and those are of course
your tiger tail wire
your parrot clasp and tag
your beads
and crimps
for this technique
you will need quite a few crimps
so make sure
you have a decent amount on hand
and then for our tools
we are using
side cutters
and flat nose pliers
for the floating necklace
pearls and firepolished crystals
look especially stunning
for this project
I have selected
these matt satin purple glass pearls
in 6mm size
and these czech firepolished crystals
in apollo lilac
and they are 8mm
for the design of our floating necklace
I have decided to place the beads
in groups of threes
with a pearl on either side
and a crystal in the middle
but of course it is up to you
to choose whatever combination of beads you like
you can put one bead per group
or you can leave large gaps
between the groups of beads
or very small gaps
it is totally up to you
so to begin
firstly attach your clasp to the wire
then, you are wanting to leave a gap
on the wire next to the clasp
and flatten a crimp on there
so you have your clasp
a length of wire
and another crimp
then, onto that
you are wanting to thread
the first three beads
and then
thread another crimp onto the wire
to rest besides those beads
and with your flat nose pliers
you flatten the crimp down onto the wire
so this holds the beads in place
and stops them from sliding across the wire
then we are simply wanting
to repeat this process again
for the next group
I tend to approximate the spaces
between my groups of beads
but some people are very pedantic
if that's the case for you
then simply measure it along a ruler
to make sure you are getting
even gaps between your groups of beads
and then thread your next group of beads on
like so
and then again
thread on a crimp
and flatten that onto the wire
on the other side of the beads
and you continue this process
all the way around the necklace
so once you have threaded your beads
all the way around to the other side of the necklace
you simply want to end it off
by attaching a tag to the other side
squash the crimp onto the wire
cut off the loose tail
and there you have it
you will probably have very sore hands
from having to squash so many crimps
but it will be worth it
because you will have a beautiful floating necklace
