Since 2005, Star Dance has taught children from age 18 months
through adults, to dance at a 3500 squrae foot facility in a strip mall.
Their business was growing and they needed to move to a larger location
to accommodate their growth.
Enter the Small Business Development Center
which provided the resources necessary for Star Dance to move to their new location
a 6,000 square foot building
in the Smart & Final Shopping Center on Lyons in Santa Clarita.
"We could not have made the transition without the SBDC."
"I had been on their mailing list, I had been getting their emails"
"And I happened to go to a seminar that they were presenting"
"about acquiring capital for small businesses."
"I went to the seminar, and because of that"
"we were able to obtain the funds we needed to make the transition"
An adviser met with Erin and provided one-on-one consulting
over a period of months -- at no cost.
"SBDC Business Advisor Jose Vega helped us from day one; "
"from starting the loan application to getting our loan funded"
"and they continue to help us even after that with marketing, advertising, accounting"
"with structuring the business; it's an amazing, amazing service."
Nearly six hundred students take part in tap
jazz, ballet, hip-hop, contemporary dance,
tumbling, mommy and me classes
preschool dance classes, dance teams and birthday partys.
Star Dance is truly a family fun dance studio.
"I just want people to know"
"that there is help out there for businesses when you have questions"
"because there is so much when you are running a small business"
"It's impossible as one person or even as a team of owners to know everything."
And does Erin wish she knew about the SBDC
when she first went into business in 2005?
"Absolutely; there are so many things as an owner"
"you just figure out as you go"
"We would have grown a lot faster and been more successful earlier
"in our development had I gone to the SBDC sooner. Definitely."
