Since its introduction about 12 years ago, the Studio has been home to many extraordinary examinations
of new work, great classics. It's intimate, and it surrounds the play and the players.
At the Studio Theatre in 2014, we have 'Christina, The Girl King'.
Christine made so many important decisions during the course of her life.
A life that was pushed very much to the edge by the expectations of her society
and that was very much at war with what she hoped to do in the world
both for herself, and for Sweden. So she's an extraordinary figure
who went against the grain; who'd refused to simply be what she was told she must be.
And you can imagine her life was really pushed to the edge.
The Studio Theatre in its intimacy provides a terrific forum for the Stratford Festival Forum.
When people come to Stratford, they get to see extraordinary theatre.
And then they have a whole bunch of questions that they want to explore.
And we find in bed-and-breakfasts right across the city the next day
everybody's talking about the play, and the ideas that are encapsulated in the play
and what exactly the playwright was getting at.
Within the Stratford Festival Forum, we have a chance to explore the idea of
Minds Pushed to the Edge: pushed to the edge by a whole bunch of different factors.
By a need for money, by our families, by our work,
our society, our own sexuality. And in this space, we get people together
so they not only see the speaker and have a chance to be quite close
but the audience here gets to see the rest of the audience.
They talk not in one direction, but in a circle and to each other.
The Forum is our chance to build on the experience in the theatre
and take our feelings and our hearts to even deeper levels.
