Mosquitoes are spreading in infectious outbreak across Texas this summer.
The West Nile Virus is a potentially serious illness that can cause symptoms
like high fever, headache
neck stiffness, coma
tremors,
weakness,
vision-loss, and paralysis.
Some of the symptoms can last weeks and the neurological effects may be permanent.
Here three ways that you can limit your exposure
to the West Nile Virus. Use insect repellent. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention recommends bug spray that contains DEET as an active ingredient.
Mosquitoes are most active between dusk and dawn, so limit your skin exposure and
avoid leaving the house between these hours if possible. Number three, pools of
standing water are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Dump excess water from flower
pots, buckets and barrels
and change the water in pet dishes and bird baths frequently.
Protect yourself from mosquitoes this summer.
