In this video we're going to compare the popularity of the Top 10 most popular English language
conspiracy sites with mainstream sites so we can get an idea of how popular conspiracy
really is. We're using the term conspiracy rather than truth because it's easier to define.
For example, our list contains David Icke. And Icke fans might believe in reptilians
as truth. But not all Coast, Rense or Infowars listeners will be into that. So for accuracy
we're sticking to conspiracy.
Rankings are taken from Alexa, the web ranking service. Not everybody likes the Alexa ranking
system but it's very widely used. As it's a ranking system, the lower the rank the more
popular the website - for example, Google usually ranks number one in most countries.
Alexa say that the lower the rank, the more accurate the ranking. For example, Facebook
or Google rank Number 1 in most countries. Here we're looking at some pretty accurate
rankings.
Here's are the top ten conspiracy sites in purple. You can see the name. And the green
sites are mainstream sites with similar Alexa rankings.
First, Number 1 - Infowars. The Infowars media kit tells us that this site is getting over
3m UVPM. It has a very similar Alexa Ranking to Playboy.com so I thought I'd check out
the Playboy visitor figures. And Playboy is actually getting nearly 8m visitors per month,
50% of which are from the US. So I'm not sure why the Alexa ranking is so similar but it's
an example of the sort of seeming irregularity that can occur. Possibly it's because Playboy
has more unique visitors who visit the site less frequently and Infowars has a smaller
but more committed audience. But the reason I'm showing you this is that the other day
I made a video about the popularity of Infowars and noted with surprise that in 5 countries
Infowars scored in the top 1000 most popular websites. I said that that was unusual - and
it is - but look here at Playboy.....it's in the top 1000 sites for all these countries!
Now I suspect Playboy is funded by the CIA.....it's doing a great job of diverting male Moslems!
So that's 3m UVPM for Infowars. Wish it could be 8!
Number 2 - Natural News, Mike Adams' pro-health site. According to the Natural News media
kit, the site is getting over 4 million UVPM. And that's got a similar Alexa ranking to
Al Jazeera.com - the English speaking version of Al Jazeera.
So - that's 4m for natural news.
Number 3 - beforeitsnews.com. We don't know how many UVPM this site's getting but we know
from statscrop that 50% of its visitors come from the US and Quantcast tells us that the
site has 840K US visitors. So if we double that - let's say about 1.5m for this site.
That's probably an underestimate but we'd rather be safe than exaggerate. That has a
similar Alexa ranking to channel4.com
Number 4 - GLP - loved by young people all over the world, especially men - they like
to talk conspiracy on this site. It's got a similar Alexa ranking to the New Yorker.
And Quantcast tells us that 2.5m UVPM go to GLP.
Number 5 - abovetopsecret.com. This site has a very useful stats page. Quantcast tells
us that 1.5m UVPM got to Top Secret. And that has a similar Alexa ranking to Radio Shack,
which is the US equivalent of Maplins.
Number 6 - David Icke. His site is more popular than Oxford University's! We don't know how many UVPM Icke gets but statscrop
tells us that around 25% of his visitors are from the US. And Quantcast estimates 150K
per month from the US. So we're going to use 600k per month for Icke.
Number 7 - Coast to Coast. I like looking at these polls telling us what people believe.
Coast tells us 3m weekly listeners per week so we're going to use that as our monthly
figure. Coast has a similar Alexa ranking to Air France.
Number 8 - Jeff Rense, a diehard Truther. We don't know how many are listening to Rense
Radio but he tells us that 800K are visiting his website per month. He has the same Alexa
ranking as ehow.com - if you've searched for anything on the web you'll have seen this
site come up.
Number 9 - Prison Planet. We know from the Infowars media kit that Prisonplanet gets
1.5 UVPM and it has a similar ranking to McDonalds.
Number 10 - last but not least, Disclose TV with all its good videos. That site tells
us that it gets at least 1m UVPM and it has a similar ranking to Wickes.....I know what
I'd rather be doing at the weekend.
So - 19.4m unique individuals per month accessing just 10 sites Although they will all probably
acccess other sites. These stats don't really mean much but I hope I've given you an idea
of how popular these sites are.
Of course, there are 100s more conspiracy sites in English and other languages AND alternative
news sites. And everybody has a different taste from AJ to Zeitgeist so the world is
waking up.
