Hello and welcome to Cupcake Addiction's Down the Bunny Hole Push Pop Tutorial where I'll
be showing you how to make these just gorgeous Easter bunny, down the bunny hole push pops.
I saw this idea initially on a site called Hungry Happenings. You can visit them at www.hungryhappenings.com
and I will leave a link to them in the description box below. They've got some really great push
pop ideas. But I saw these ones and I just have to share them with you all.
For those of you that don't know, a push pop is a clear container. You basically fill it,
full of cake. And once the lid's popped off, push it up, the cake pops out and you can
eat it as you go. I bought mine on eBay. They were actually sent to Australia from the US
and I've paid about 60 cents a pop for them. I got them in a lot of 24. So you can definitely
search online on eBay and also at all good cake decorating retailers for this.
Tools and equipment that we will be using today, aside from our push pop containers:
I've got a pair of scissors. I've got 2 circle cutters. Now this one here
is a 1 ¾ inch or a 4 ½ cm. and I've chosen it because it exactly fits inside my push
pop containers. I've also got here a ¾ of an inch or 2 cm.
just a small circle cutter. If you don't have one of those, it's about the same size as
your Loyal number 20 piping tip. Otherwise, you can have a look around your kitchen for
something a similar size. I've got a zip lock bag.
I've got another zip lock bag which has got some coconut in it. Now, this is not desiccated
coconut. This is shredded coconut so it's quite a bit thicker and chunkier than desiccated
coconut. And they'll be called different things in different countries. But you can see there
the type of coconut it is. And I've just thrown about handful of that into a zip lock bag
with a couple of drops of either liquid or paste. But I do prefer liquid food coloring
for this particular task and shaken it around. It's given me that lovely green coconut grass
effect. I've got a little bit of our perfectly pipeable
buttercream frosting which I've tinted green -- great recipe and tutorial for that on our
channel so I would leave a link to that in the description box below.
I've got a little bit of melted pink chocolate. So I've just colored some white chocolate
with a tiny tiny bit of pink color paste. But you can also use pink candy melts and
that's just the littlest bit just to do some detailing on the feet.
I've got a couple of orange chews. Now these are an optional extra if you do want to do
the carrots but you do not have to. You can also use orange fondant for those or orange
toffee. I've got just some regular white marshmallows.
A cupcake. And I've got a skewer, a little bit bigger
and thicker than a cocktail stick. We're actually going to be using this end to do just some
dabbing and [dotting]. So something a little thicker than a cocktail stick or a toothpick
if you've got it. Let's get started.
Now, you can use full cakes for this. But being that we do cupcakes here at Cupcake
Addiction, it's fitting that we use a cupcake. Also, for those of you wondering, my nails
today are gorgeous little cupcakes and they were done specifically for me by Meliney Nail
Art. She's a good friend of mine and she designed these cupcakes and a great tutorial on her
channel, Meliney Nail Art. So I'll leave a link to her in the description box below.
Head on over if you want to learn how to do this gorgeous nails and don't forget to subscribe
to her while you're there. The first thing that we want to do, while
that cupcake's still in its cupcake liner, is we're going to core the inside of the cupcake.
So just push down that first smaller piping tip or smaller circle cutter. And while that's
still in there, take your larger circle cutter and around the outside, push it down.
You can then take your patty pan or your cupcake liner depending on where you're from. And
you can use the rest of that to either eat or pop into cakepops. Now very very carefully
push out that cake. So you've got a bit of a core of cake there. And then very carefully
so as not to split the outsides, push out that inner core. So what you should have here
is another lovely little junk of cake to eat. But you've got a nice little hole it out core
of cake. Alright, we're going to take the push pop
container. Now if you like, you can pop a little bit of the extra cake, just some of
our extra cake that we have sitting around in the very very bottom of your push pop container.
And I'm going to do that just for height and just crumble it down a little bit. Don't worry
that it's a bit crumbled, give it a push down, because we're going to put some frosting in
the middle of that [cord] stick it all together. Take your lovely cupcake core and slide it
down into the push pop. We're going to take that zip lock bag and
scoop in some frosting. Make sure that you let all of the air out of it before you close
it up so you don't end up with air bubbles. And just cut off... You want quite a decent
little corner cut off because we're not doing any fine work with this. It's just a makeshift
piping bag for us. So I'm going to take that and I'm just going to squeeze it into that
center core. This is purely so that you don't end up with dry cake. This is the frosting
for your cake. It's all going to sit in the middle so what you see there in the outside
is that lovely dirt effect. Now I want that to come just a little bit out and around on
top of the cake because it's going to help stick our coconut down.
Take some of that lovely green grass coconut. And I know that there'll be people that don't
like coconut. If you don't like coconut, you can have a look at a few other options. You
can use something like sprinkles. But coconuts are really good option and it kind of hold
together a little bit better. So push it down so that it's actually sticking into that frosting.
It will make it easier when it actually comes to eating. And then pop it off to the side.
For our bunny's bottom, we're going to take one of those marshmallows. Pick a nice sort
of a shaped one. And I'm just going to trim off the edges and that's just going to give
it the rounded bunny bottom kind of a shape. If you love our tutorials, make sure that
you head on over to our channel, My Cupcake Addiction. Hit the Subscribe button. We've
got tons of great tutorials over there and lots of great stuff for Easter.
Now I'm going to take a little bit of this pink chocolate. And this is purely just to
sort of stick it in a little bit. So I'm just going to put a little tiny dab of the pink
chocolate. And you can use green chocolate or white chocolate or whatever you like. But
I've just got pink there. And I'm going to use that just to secure our bunny's bottom
on a bit of an angle and just inside the rim of our push pop.
Now we're going to use one of the other marshmallows. I want to cut one side. And you'll notice
with marshmallows, on the outside, they're not sticky, on the inside they are. So you
want to get 2 non-sticky sides. So I like to cut the top and then the bottom off. And
there be a little bit of the sticky middle section. With those ones, just cut them off
into a bit of a teardrop shape. They're just going to make our bunny rabbit feet.
Alright, and we want to take a little bit more of that melted pink chocolate. On this
sticky side, little bit of melted pink chocolate and use that to stick it onto the bunny's
bottom. I like to have the feet just sticking over the side a little bit of the push pop
container because it's a bit cute. Same again with the other one. And you really
don't need much, the actual stick from the marshmallow I found was enough to really almost
stick it on by itself. But this is really just to secure it if you're going to be transporting
them. Then with this other inner little section,
rip of some of that extra outer non-sticky stuff, non-sticky siding. Now this is where
it gets a little bit messy. You're going to wash up afterwards. Just roll it into a ball.
It's going to be really sticky. It's going to stick to your hands but this is what gives
you it the lovely texture of the bunny tail. So you can see there. Pull off a little bit
so you get the right size bunny tail. You can see there, it really does stick quite
a bit. But it gives you that nice little kind of fluffy tail effect.
So take a little bit more of this melted chocolate. It really is our glue for this exercise. Pop
a little dollop of it just where you think his tail should go. And stick it on. There's
our little bunny's tail. From here, were' going to just use the pink
chocolate and the fat end of that skewer. We're just going to make a little big pad
for the bottom of his foot and then 3 little small ones. We're going to repeat that with
both feet. Don't go too thick with these little blobs
because you don't want them to dribble down and go from being nice little pads to being
kind of big long drips of pink. Alright, so at this point, you should have
your lovely push pop. You can see there, it still looks a little bit like he's bottom's
not quite nestled in that grass. So to get that nice and firmly in there, we're just
going to take a little bit more of that green frosting. Pipe in right and nice close around
the bunny's bottom. And then we're going to take a little bit more of that desiccated
coconut, sorry the shredded coconut, not desiccated. And use that frosting to stick it on. It gets
a bit messy. There's going to be coconut grass everywhere.
Now you can definitely stop here but if you want to make a few little bit different or
go a little bit over the top, this is where your little orange chews come in. I pop those
in the microwave for 10 seconds just to soften them up so that they're not quite as hard
to work with. Obviously, if you're using fondant or modeling chocolate or something like that,
you won't need to. Just pull off a little bit. Roll it around in your hand. And then
I'm just going to use my finger just to fashion it into a nice little carrot shape.
Using the scissors, if I can get that marshmallow of them... Using the scissors or a knife,
just make some nice little indents into your carrot. Nice little carrot shape. They don't
have to be perfect. They're really really easy. But once they're in grass with the rabbit,
everybody's going to know what they are. So sit one in the top there. We'll make a second.
Before you do start doing this detailing, it is a good idea to clean up your work space
because they're quite messy with all of the coconut and the cookie crumbs or cake crumbs.
So you can see here, I'm creating a bit of a mess for myself. There's our second carrot.
Pop him down next to our bunny and finish those carrots off. Just take that piping bag
and just put just a little dab of green on top.
So there you have your gorgeous bunny push pop. Now I wouldn't recommend placing a lid
on these. If you do, you want to do all of that a little bit lower down so that you've
got room for the lid. But I think these are really gorgeous and really effective without
their lids. And I think you'll agree, they're really really unique.
So head on over to Hungry Happenings for that great website and everything else they've
got to offer. And make sure you check out My Cupcake Addiction for plenty more in the
world of cupcakes, cakepops and push pops. Thanks very much for watching.
