The design concept for the TRICITY is "Smart for All."
We designed the TRICITY with a desire for everyone to savour the enjoyment and pleasure of riding a motorcycle.
There were two design points. The first, primarily aimed at female customers was "familiarity."
We wanted to present an elegant vehicle with a feeling of comfort that could be ridden anywhere and that enabled freedom of movement.
The second point primarily directed towards male customers was to evoke the feel of a "new vehicle."
The TRICITY is a vehicle that introduces a new mechanism, and it is that creativity that visually expresses
a modern form of conveyance supported by new technology.
Under the design philosophy of "Refined Dynamism", each Yamaha designer interprets and implements the philosophy within their own designs.
I simply translate this philosophy directly as "refined dynamism" in my own designs.
The word "dynamism" may evoke images of things rising up that could be described as "powerful" or "emotional."
However in my case, I found meaning in the word "refined," and emphasized "graceful", "calm",
as well as robust "movement" as themes in my design.
As an additional point in terms of philosophy, although designers including myself, tend to focus on our love for "machines" during the design process.
we engage in designs that are "centered around people" and take into consideration the product concept and the mind of the rider.
For example, when contemplating what a particular person may "like", "what kind of product they want" or "what kind of life they lead",
the focus during design is on the question, "how can this product help a person 'feel the way they want to feel'?"
For women, design must consider whether "beauty" is expressed in lithe leg movements when getting on the step board, for example.
On the other hand, for men our designs take into account the feeling of riding a new motorcycle, that cockpit aura when getting on the bike,
and whether the design inspires thrills and a dynamic spirit.
