Hi guys, erm, my name's Emmie and welcome to LifeSIGNS YouTube channel.
Basically, erm, I'm just here to introduce myself really for the first video,
My name's Emmie, I am a drama student, erm I'm 20 years old and I have suffered from depression for the past 4 years.
and I have been self harming for 3 of those. I would sort of consider myself recovered, but more on the way.
I don't think you can ever really recover, I think it's a one day at a time sort of thing.
Erm, what to expect from these videos - that I'll be talking you through a lot of LifeSIGNS resources on our website.
We've got some really, really, really useful worksheets and factsheets up there whether that be for you, suffering from self harm yourself, or for a friend or relative of someone.
And just basically helping you to make sense of self injury, I will try, I will not give advice but I will share factual and useful information.
LifeSIGNS treats everyone as individuals, anyone can be affected by self injury and it's important that we stress that to people.
Here at LifeSIGNS we believe that self injury is not an addiction, because an addiction makes it sound like you can't stop.
And you can stop.
If you choose to seek the help. Self injury is a coping mechanism for a wide variety of people and we hope that through these videos we can point people
towards seeking the right help and support, but we will not force that upon anyone.
LifeSIGNS has had 10 years of self injury guidance and network support and we hope to keep this going for as long as we possibly can.
We are a user led organisation, led by volunteers with personal experiences, with the staff, erm, all of us have had personal experience with self injury and we hope to use that to our best ability to
show you what we have learnt from our lives. Our channel will evolve over the next couple of months, I know I'm going to be running these videos and I'm gonna be able to use my camera, which will mean better quality for you,
it will mean better lighting for you guys, cause I'm hoping to get some box lights, but that costs money and I don't have it at the moment.
We will be sharing our videos on our tumblr and twitter too, which I will put links to in the description.
In our next videos, we are gonna be tackling self injury directly, as I say, this one is more of an introduction to you guys to let you know who I am and say hi to you all.
Thank you so, so, so, so, so much if you have already subscribed to us, our channel is a really important way for us to get our message accross, it's really useful to do it via video,
cause it's good to put a face to the information I think, and I am glad to be that face.
We basically, basically we promise to talk openly and honestly, frankly about self injury but we promise you we will never be graphic.
Thank you if you have come over from my personal channel MumsieBeaver, I asked you all to come over and subscribe to this channel as well so if you have thank you so, so much.
If you are a subscriber or someone who is just coming accross these videos please, please, please, please, please, share it with your friends, spread the word and together we can change the stigma around self injury.
Get people talking and get people learning the truth about it. Thanks guys. Like the video, subscribe, comment, and if you've got any questions don't feel afraid to drop us a line in the inbox. Bye guys.
