So we came up with this Missy the Moose project
It's based on a true story.
There was a baby moose who lost his mother on a road
in the middle of Flavatna which is the main town where I live.
This man named Curly Wright took this baby moose in
and he cared for it.
And soon grew big enough and went back off to it's natural habitat.
I decided to take the story and write a book on it.
So I based this book on this true story
but I changed the most name to Missy.
It seems easier for the children to remember that.
My grandmother sewed me a moose costume because I wanted to go into classrooms
as Missy the Moose and teach children about road safety
and how many moose are actually killed on our highways.
My little sister helped me. She would become the moose
and I'd just read the book to the children and then I'd say
"okay kids now there's a special guest coming in to see you"
and so Missy would come in she would hand them each a book
They're black and white so it's like a coloring book.
So the children all get a book and a Missy the Moose sticker.
So then they'd go home
and remind their parents watch out for moose.
Even though you're not getting paid for your volunteer service,
it's not the money that matters
it's keeping your friends and family safe and
actually feeling good about what you actually did.
