The rights and needs of children and young people are largely ignored in the response to ***.
I think that young people and children get marginalised in much of the [same] way
that human rights responses get marginalised.
They are sort of token young people or children that are asked to speak or token programs here or there.
With so many young people becoming infected every year,
and young people really having the opportunity to come together and be creative and say
“what is the next generation of the *** response going to look like?”
I just really call out to the young people that are involved in this response,
to take Vienna as a cue to think the next generation of the *** response must put human rights
at the centre: the human rights of children and young people,
the human rights of the most affected groups, the human rights of everyone.
[I] really call on the next generation to say,
“No more of the marginalising of our rights and other rights.
Rights must be at the centre and we are not going to accept it any other way.”
