Good evening, tonight we shall be talking about our arched openings and roller
shutters.
It was a bit like the hen and the chicken. What came first? Architects wanted to
specify arched openings but they were imported from Europe and with all the
custom duties, it cost an eye.
So they didn’t specify, and the manufacturers, like us, wanted to do it
but since architects didn’t specify, no one wanted to invest.
We said let’s do it, we take the risk. We went to Italy, followed all the required
training. Our best technician stayed there for quite a while.
We had to send a batch of profiles there so they could make our rollers. Each
profile that we bend its own roller.
And it was a substantial investment, but we took the risk, and today we start to
see the return on investment.
Now, with our branch in South Africa, we will manufacture in Mauritius and export,
and depending on the evolution of the market there we will move our machine
there. Then if needs be we will manufacture in SA and export back home.
For an aluminium opening to close like this, specially if it is arched, is a proof
that our arched division is very good. It’s mainly the effort of our employees who
made a big effort to acquire all the technicality lying behind this product.
Because to manufacture a product like this, you need a lot of patience, a lot of
geometry. You need to know how to use the various machines perfectly. The staff
of this department do an excellent job.
In the past there was a machine used to make wooden arched doors. Today these
doors cost an absolute fortune.
So people come see us to change them. We make a jig, repeat the radius and it’s
done. In renovations too it is a good solution.
