My name is Jean Dinkson Gachette.
I’m from Les Cayes.
Les Cayes is the country’s third largest city.
I’m the Assistant Pastor of the First Baptist Church
I’m the pastor in charge of the evangelization ministry.
I’m married.
I have a baby boy, 1 1/2 months old.
(And what else … )
I did my theology studies here at S.T.E.P. (Evangelical Theological Seminary of Port-au-Prince)
I’m 30 years old, just turned 30.
[And how many years have you worked as a pastor?]
I’ve been working since 2005, so five years.
[So, if a church in the US wants to pray for your church, what could they pray for?]
Well, I don’t want to be selfish, but
… I can simply ask that the first request be for my ministry,
the evangelization ministry that I’m a part of
that you'd pray for the ministers of evangelization for the church,
I'll note that, among the Evangelicals
some in the group are aging
so we need a lot more people
who can really devote themselves to this ministry
To preach the gospel, to go all over the country
Because everybody receives that [message] inside
I want– I don’t do any recruiting at the church for evangelization,
because you can’t just ask
somebody to be part of the evangelization team.
The person has to be touched spiritually
and receive a call from God to do evangelization
So the first request is for God to touch people
so that they would give themselves to this great ministry of evangelization.
The second thing is to allow for real, brotherly love
amongst us, the brothers and sisters of the Church
and to enable us to find and say things
that will respond to the spiritual and social needs of the community
[What part of the gospel has
struck you the most in these last four months?]
The part of the gospel
is the faithfulness of God
that invites me to have this hope.
I haven’t preached at the church since July 2009
because I had to have surgery
So, the first time I’ve been able to preach since then is this month
second Sunday of May.
And I have one topic:
‘What do we do in times like these?’
I preached this message
And it's to communicate what I feel
And what I feel is
the faithfulness of God in everything
that God is faithful in spite of everything.
And I want the community to understand
what we mean by "the faithfulness of God"
And that could lead them to hope,
to continue to have hope in God
because He is in control of everything
[And what verse has been most relevant to you in that?]
The verse that I remember
(because that’s my biggest problem, remembering verses!)
But, there is Jeremiah 9:11, a verse that I really like
“'I know the plans that I have for you,
plans for peace and not for harm,' says the Lord.”
That’s the verse that really struck me. That’s it.
[Great.]
[Anything else you want to add?]
Well, If I have anything to add to those who are watching me,
it’s that I love you ALL,
even if you don’t me personally and have never talked to me,
one day we’ll talk together in heaven.
Thank you.
