Alright, so the Solid Series is OCZ's value oriented Solid State Drives.
They're not super duper fast, for ultra high performance,
but they are extremely quick, they're definitely faster than most hard drives,
and they're definitely in the 2.5'' Form Factor,
which makes them absolutely incredible for your netbooks,
where you don't want to spend a ton of money,
you just want to get something that's really fast.
If you've ever benchmarked a 2.5'' drive, they are, like,
obnoxiously, notoriously ridiculously slow.
I mean, I'm talking like 30 MB per second.
These things are closer to like 90, 100 MB per second.
They're much quick and they just cost, they're not too expensive
compared to the other drives that OCZ makes.
Now remember, they have this is the Solid Line. They also have the Core,
the Core V2, the Vertex, and there's a few other ones actually.
The Apex, OCZ makes a ton. So, this is their value oriented line.
And it particularly makes sense for people who are putting these
in netbooks. The actual southbridge chipset of the netbooks doesn't allow you
to go that fast anyway. So what's the point of getting a really fast,
expensive drive if it's going to be bottlenecked by that southbridge chipset.
So, let's take a look at these. These are really cool.
First of all, 2.5'' obviously, Form Factor.
Regular, old SATA connector with a SATA power.
But these have something a little bit extra right there.
You see that? That's a Mini-USB 2.0 port.
So you can plug in, via Mini-USB 2.0. And what's really great about that
is that when you upgrade these on a netbook,
you can just go ahead and pretty much image your operating system drive on to here
and then swap in the drive and you are good to go.
Your computer will boot up normally, except it will boot up much, much quicker.
And you'll get the benefits of having a solid state drive,
which is really incredible. Now, I'm gonna give you some of the,
some of the benchmarks here that we got from benchmarking these.
Now, there's a claimed 155-90 read-write in MB per second.
That's what they say. They say 155-90. Now, here were my benchmarks.
Now, first of all, this is Vista 64. It's ICH 10R southbridge chipset.
Pretty much just left the 1 drive in there. No operating system on it.
I pretty much stuck it in there and used HD Tune Pro to get these numbers.
So, they said 155-90, I got 130-50 untweaked.
Now, on the OCZ website, there are actually some instructions
on how to tweak your registry in Vista,
or in XP to make your solid state drives perform faster.
So I went through that to see if it would make a difference, and it did.
Once the tweaks were done in Vista I got 150-80 sustained MB
read and write speeds, respectively, which is still very, very good,
and very fast.
So 150 is, is about as fast as two of the fastest hard drives in RAID
you can get right now. If you were to get two, let's say, 1 terrabyte,
or 500 GB hard drives that have a 32 MB cache buffer,
throw them in a RAID 0 array and benchmark them,
you get about 150 read speeds. You're getting that here with
one solid state drive and a solid state drive that doesn't cost that much, I might add.
So these are definitely great. If you put these in RAID on a desktop,
they're awesome. If you're going to put them on a netbook or on a laptop,
they're also fantastic. Not only because they're faster and you're going to boot into
Windows quicker, but you're gonna get, they're lighter, you're gonna get
better battery because they use less power, they're shock proof,
so if you drop them or you drop your notebook,
you're not going to lose any of your important data.
What else is good about these on notebooks? There's a bunch of stuff.
Really, really good stuff. They run cooler. They don't produce heat.
Everything is good about solid state drives.
There's very few bad things on here. So, real quickly, before I leave you though.
1.5 million hours mean time between failures, which is excellent.
That means that these are going to last you for years, and years, and years,
and if you're still on the fence about it, OCZ gives you a very special warranty.
They've add on an extra year, compared to what they usually offer.
So they have a two-year warranty on these solid state drives.
They're available in 30, is this 30? No, this is 250.
This is 30, this is 60. And I'm missing the 120.
So we still have 120. So, 30, 60, 120 and 250.
If you're going to put them in a netbook, or a laptop, the 250 is very large,
very affordable and just fast enough.
You're not paying for extra speed you're not going to use.
It's the Solid Series from OCZ. And they are very awesome.
I give them a thumb up. If you have any questions on it, Email me.
I'll see you guys next time.
