- Hi, I'm Rachel. - And I'm Rhianon.
We're the founders of Hear YA Now...
which is an organization for deaf and hard of hearing young adults...
ages 18 to 40.
We are based in southern California, as you can see.
Our network actually extends all across the U.S.
We provide resources, support, and opportunities...
for deaf and hard of hearing young adults.
The reason we're making this video...
is because we want to show support for the initiative called 100 Portland.
Rhi helped me get to my first national convention...
for the Hearing Loss Association of America...
in 2010.
And it was such a great experience.
I got to meet all sorts of young adults with hearing loss...
from all over the country...
have everyone understand what I've gone through...
and learn about all the cool new technologies...
and share this experience with so many other great people.
Absolutely.
My first convention experience was in 2009 in Nashville, Tennessee...
I was part of a small group of young adults.
I went to the conventions the following years in 2010, 2011...
and those two opportunities...
gave me the chance to really develop my advocacy skills...
to develop my networking skills...
and I also had the opportunity to serve on panels...
which focused specifically on young-adult issues.
And 100 Portland is all about bringing young adults...
to the national convention...
to provide these opportunities for them to network with each other.
We want to encourage you, especially if you have never been before, to attend.
And if you have attended, we want to get you there.
I'm looking forward to it. It's gonna be lots of fun.
It's so exciting to get people together...
when you're only talking online for...
you know, a year at a time.
Yeah, it's always better when we hang out in person.
So please do come. We're here to support you.
And if you need anything or have any questions, you can always contact us...
at hearyanow@gmail.com.
We hope to see you there! Peace.
