its not about having somebody
it's about being who
you are
and let the somebody find you at your best
I ain't trying to be a monument
because I am a movement
*** your life back
*** it back out of the hands of folk
that don't know what to do with themselves or you I...
have the power to break
out of poverty
*** your life back
and put it in God's hands
and I guarantee you
things will change I...
have the power
to break out of depression
the past is over
live in the present
and quit worrying about the future I have the
power to
break into a new
world
a new life
a new joy a new peace
fresh oil
[narrator] Bishop Noel Jones presents
this provocative challenging
and life-changing message to encourage
inspire
and motivate you to keep
marching towards your destiny
now receive this fresh oil from
Bishop Noel Jones
as it flows from the vials of heaven to saturate your soul
[Bishop Jones] first John chapter two
verse thirteen
and in preaching last week I was
stimulated by yet another battle
that we fight
that we have to overcome
and it's not the same as simply having
an antagonist
some battles that we fight are
external battles and other battles we fight are
internal ones
and in Saint John he
very philosophically
points out to
what the narrative account of Genesis
presents
when he says
in verse
sixteen
of first John two for all that is in the world
the *** of the flesh
the *** of the eyes and the pride of life is not of the father
but its of the world
and the world passeth away and the *** thereof but he that doeth
the will of God abideth forever
he sets this here as a philosophical presentation
of the narrative in Genesis Genesis says she saw that the tree was good for food
something pleasant to the eyes
and something to be desired
to make one wise
when Jesus was tempted you noted
that again it was an appeal to the flesh
to make the stones into bread
it was an appeal to the eyes when he showed him the kingdoms of the world
and it was pride of life when he said at the top of the pinnacle of the tabernacle
just
jump down
after all the angels are going to catch you
and John places this within the parameters of
twelve through seventeen and I want to read it
I write unto you little children because your sins are forgiven you for
your name sake
I write unto fathers because you have known him that is from the beginning I
write unto you young men because
you have overcome the wicked one I write unto little children because you have known
the father I've written unto you fathers because you have known him that is from
the beginning
I have written unto young men because you were strong and
word of God abideth in you and you have overcome
the wicked one
and then he says the love not the world
neither the things that are in the world if any man love the world
the love of the father is not in him
and that's when he tells us what's all
in the world
and its incidental so it's really uh... significant that he does not describe
houses
he does not say anything about
mega yachts
he doesn't say anything about
televisions and clubs
he says all that is in the world
is really what you make of it
*** of the flesh *** of the eyes and the pride of life I want you look at
somebody
and simply say overcome it
this is overcome part two get over it amen
this is part two
the concept of power versus power
the
phenomenalogical attitude to power
because power is a phenomenon really
and whenever there's an encounter anywhere
it's a power encounter
Paul Tillec was
very clear
when he dealt with the issue of
powers of being coming into the space of other powers of being
and there's always a move
to find who
has the best position
we do it all
time
children growing up
soon as they get...I was at my grandsons awhile ago
between church and visit with them and
Oliver is now was looking aa his
older brother Ian keeps moving around
and every now and then he starts exerting himself he wants to jump
they sent me a picture of him
in the little jumper
just laid out sleep
he had jumped himself into oblivion
at five months old and
as I was looking at my son
I told him now get ready for the clashes they'll have
because two boys going up together in a small space
they're going to test each other
and children test parents
in relationships husbands test wives and wives
test husbands
so everybody
is in a power encounter life is just
power encounters
what can I get away with
how far can I go before the restraints come
what am I allowed to do what am I not allowed to do its a power encounter
the Hebrews
they were fighting all the time
and they were so numerous
they were fighting the Amalekites the Hittities the Gershites the Havites
the Philestines they were fighting
Babylon Assyria
and so they were used to the whole concept of struggle
and need to express that
its etymological
its... wherever there is
a need to
express a concept
you find how they feel in words
their's were life-and-death struggles and
if you're in a life-and-death struggle
you can't take it or leave it
if its life and death you've got to stay with it
because
there are some battles you can fight that it doesn't matter whether you win
there are other battles can't afford to lose
I was told
that you gotta learn to pick your fights
cause some battles are worth fighting if you lose
other battles aren't worth fighting if you win
just wasting your time
but when life-and-death are at stake when you're dealing now with my soul
and you talking about eternity in hell or eternity with God
now that's a battle I can't afford to lose
ah... yes some battles the stakes are too high
you have to do what you gotta do scratch the devil's eyes out
whatever you got to do but you can't afford
to lose
there's a word that the Hebrews call guwd and it talks about invade it really means
to invade
and they had to deal with invasions often
because
they're sitting in a peculiar spot between Europe and Africa and all the
great nations
have come through there
generally when there is an invasion
the opposing army takes the women captive destroys as many men
as they can then they spoil your goods and they take your stuff
so nobody wants to be invaded
by another nation
and it's the same concept of struggling to maintain who you are because
satan wants to invade
he wants to come in and penetrate your defenses
he wants to capture you and enslave
and that's that
the concept of invasion it's not just and standing off on this side of you
and hollering at you and antagonzing you from the other side of the fence that's not
his plan
his plan is to come and
completely enslave
and completely control
by invading
there are somethings
have invaded your mind
and dismantled the system somethings
have invaded your life I
mean just bust in
some
you open the door to others has just crashed in I don't know
have never been around some people just crashed into your life its like
you can't close the door on them they come through the window and you
close the window to come to the roof but they just find a way
to be all up in your life some people invade
and they invade to conquer and to control
and generally they
use chalash and that is
they they they find your weakness and your frustration
and that's the whole point is to bring you to a place of complete
surrender and complete breakdown that's how it works
they coming from one area or another
and uh...
because they're used to fighting
some people are used fighting for what they want
and they don't give up easy that's the devil who's a roaring lion
seeking whom
he may devour he's always on the prowl
particularly when God has put his hand on you and
and and you got to know you're blessed you gotta know you are blessed
uh... you're blessed
when he's on the prowl when he's after you
he doesn't go after folk he already has
he goes after folk he doesn't have yet
or those
who have walked away from him and so
never take the negative negatively take the negative positively if you weren't
who you were you wouldn't be under the attack
that you are under satan is trying to get you back
and and then there was gabar and that's the ability or the capacity
either in the physical ethical or religious sense to prevail because
not only are you attacked physically but you are attacked morally
that's what satan wants
he wants to destroy your integrity he doesn't want you to move
around with honesty and decency and its lacking in this world
it's hard to find a person with integrity and
decency and loyalty oh... don't even bring up loyalty oh my God somebody who is
with you when it's roough when it's tough
somebody who's with you when things are good or bad
you know
uh... and so they prevailed they overcome is used
even in the sense of wrestling in battle in one
Hebrew word it's hand-to-hand combat it's not just
uh... sending bombs a long way but it's in a fight
where you smell the opponent you smell
his anger you smell
his sweat as he's trying to overcome you in
hand-to-hand combat you not sending any
bombs to fight the devil the devil is
right up in your face
right up in your craw
and it's a struggle it presupposes an opposing force there is
battle going on right now in your mind
as you sit here
there's a battle going on about some stuff
that you need to get rid of and
some stuff that you need to incorporate in your life
and it's an everyday battle it just doesn't happen every now then
if you're making it through life if you got here today you had to fight to
get here
you had to overcome something to get to the place that you are in
and don't fool yourself that person beside you looks all decked out in
givency
gucci down
uh-uh... fluery mcglure but don't worry yourself that
person beside you is in a battle just to stay afloat
just to
keep their minds on the Lord
and then when God calls Israel to arms against an enemy
it's generally because of the enemy's moral degradation he
did not want them to take the land of Canaan simply because the Canaanites
was serving him the battle was
God is replacing them and I'm going to give you the land but don't fool
yourself
when God gives you something you still have to fight for it
uh-uh you can't come into a new position and not understand its a fight
he can't put you in new land and if the land is worth having at all there are going to
be giants in it
if there's a blessing in the land somebody's going to be there
uh-uh you want something nobody else has not me
uh... you want something nobody else wants rather not me
uh-uh what I want somebody else wants it because the quality
is so great
that it can't just stand or sit there
and nobody want it I wish I could talk to somebody
amen you want to job nobody else wants not me
I want a job other people want hahaha
uh... you want a house nobody else wants
not me I don't even want a woman nobody else wants
uh-uh... I want something somebody else wants ya'll excuse me but that's just
the way
it is amen I don't
something nobody else wants
everybody walking away and I'm the only one going that way
the devil is a liar
uh... I need to fight some people off I need to
amen it had better be worth fighting for
uh... I wish somebody could talk to me
I don't want a contract nobody else wants
I want to put my bid in and I want somebody else's bid why because it's
valuable and God doesn't put you
in a land where nobody else wants to be there the blessing is so great and so
wonderful that everybody's trying to get
to what God has for you
and the devil is trying to spoil it
because he doesn't want you to enjoy
what God has for you everytime you move for something that's a blessing
it seems as if everything gets in the way of what you know is a blessing
ain't nobody over there where the curse is everybody's over there
where you're trying to be blessed
and you better understand the this you'd better fight for your soul
you've got to roll up your sleeves
and tell the devil
you can't have my soul
now you can have house you can have my car you can have my money but my soul
you cannot have
uh... when God is involved
then it becomes his battle
because any time he calls his people to battle it becomes his battle that's
why when he was fighting against Jericho and they went and circled
Jericho and the walls fell down they took the accursed thing
and that's why
they couldn't win in Ai because
the battle is the Lord's battle and that means a spoils
are the Lord's and when he
has what is called the accursed thing he has just blessed that for
himself that's what he does he says this is minw you can't use it and what he can't
use he destroys it so that's why he told them destroy everything don't keep
anything why because I have blessed that I have sanctified it to myself
and since I can't use it it must be destroyed why
because the battle is mine I gave you the victory
the spoils are mine
whenever he calls to battle then he is in the midst of that battle
and uh... that means that enemy cannot overcome you because they have to
overcome him to overcome you
uh... I feel it that's the outward battle that's the thing that's
on the outside
and so we pursue enemies and we destroy our enemies and
we walk away from our enemies when we're fighting something that's
antagonistic
but there is something else that this text suggests that all of us have to
fight
and this is not to an antagonistic enemy not an enemy on the outside
that we don't like
but now there is an enemy
that's on the inside that we do like
uh... I wonder do you go with me through here
uh... it's easier to fight an enemy that's antagonistic
it's easy to overcome or seek to overcome something that you don't like
if I don't like you I will just leave I will just walk away
and just go away from you but now what happens with the enemy that I do
like
with the things in my life
that I enjoy
but they're not good for me
that enemy that I enjoy being around
those things
that I have a proclivity for a tendency towards a leaning and
and appetite
those things that draw my attention that I like
to be with
but what I like
to be with is not good for me it is one thing to understand that
what you do against an enemy you hate or you can avoid
but what happens when there is not total hatred
and it can be avoided I really like it and it's around to me
and this is what verse sixteen gives us it gives us a
vulnerability
for the things that we like and we're drawn to them
because of the *** of the eyes the *** of the flesh
and the pride of life
you see when you came to the God you still had some attachments to the
world
he didn't just take you from the world and put you in some isolated place
and expect you to serve him in isolation
see many of us would be real holy if we were isolated
if God just took us and incarcerated us behind
some bars and kept us from the things that are going on in the world
you behind the bars reaching through but you can't reach it
wouldn't it be nice if God just move those things that you really
enjoy so that you wouldn't
be tempted that he would just take it away but it's funny how God leaves us
with vulnerability and that is he doesn't take a way the *** of the
flesh
he doesn't take away the pride life he doesn't take a way the *** of the eyes
he leaves me with all of the things I have ever had on the inside
and he leaves me with the world with everything on the outside
so not only do I have the desire
but the world is still enticing ah... I wish
I wish I wish that you'd understand it
I feel it because I like it and I want it and this is where I'm vulnerable
satan knows my desires he knows
my strongholds he knows what I like he knows what I have enjoyed
you see and he and I were enjoying it before I met the Lord and he and I hung out
and so
he knows my appetencies
about my genetic proclivity he knows what I have a leaning for he
even understands the generation curse that I was a part of
and what my family enjoyed doing and the things
I've watched
