Welcome to this week at Minnesota.
My name is Chelsey Shoup, I am a sophomore at the University
of Minnesota and I'm the event coordinator
for the Active Energy Club.
The reason we're out here is because we want people
to become aware of everyday choices that they make
and how it affects energy usage increases waste.
We're taking it to the extreme
by completely cutting ourselves off from the power grid
for a night and until we have to go to class
in the morning we'll be out here.
The 23rd ranked men's basketball team hosted Thursday night
at The Barn, William's Arena.
Despite 17 points and 16 rebounds
from Trevor Mbakwe Tubby Smith's Gophers dropped their fourth
straight game falling 71 to 62 to the Illini.
The Gophers are now 16-8 on the season
and travel to Iowa on Sunday.
This week the U celebrated the opening
of the new Heller-Hurwicz Economics Institute.
Their kickoff event focused on solving climate change
through economics as they begin their work
to impact public policy and help solve issues facing Minnesota
and the U.S., such as the home foreclosure crisis
and big bank bailouts.
The U's nationally recognized economics department is unique
in that it shares many researchers
with the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank.
