Therapist: So, you had a major rotator cuff tear? Patient: Yeah.
Therapist: And did they repair it?
Patient: Well, that's when I saw...I had an appointment to see a surgeon.
Patient: After surgery he said you may not get full range back ever because it was—you know, he did the best that he could.
Patient: Uh, he actually used the bicep tendon to uh. He nipped off part of the bicep tendon, and used that for a graph. And did a graph.
Patient: And he, sort of, read me the Riot Act, and said, "You have one shot, so don't mess it up." You know, as far as getting healed.
Patient: So, I took that to heart, for the most part.
Therapist: So, you experience the Mettler Method® of therapy, and what has been your experience with that?
Patient: Well, so far, real impressed. I was, well... Initially, I was pleased with how...
Patient: ...with how much, you know, you have that arm and shoulder in the sling for five weeks, and it doesn't want to do anything different than that.
Patient: I was really impressed with how gentle and cautious Jeff, the therapist, was. And, you know, made me feel supported and relaxed.
Patient: You know, you sort of hear stories, like, getting my age, you hear stories, "Oh yeah, surgery is not bad, but watch out for that therapy!"
Therapist: So, you had the Mettler Released technique? Patient: Right, yeah.
Patient: It was something I had sort of heard about, but wasn't sure what it was and...
Therapist: So, what are some activities, Ken, that you are doing now that you weren't able to do before?
Patient: Well, in construction work I'm always, you know, doing stuff above my head.
Patient: And for a while, before surgery, I was turning into a left-hander.
Patient: Or, painting like this. [Laughter] Or whatever.
Patient: But now I have, you know, fell like I have pretty good range above my head.
Patient: You know, I'm not lifting real heavy stuff above my head, but, you know, hang a little dry wall above my head.
Therapist: So, you would recommend Mettler Method® to other patients?
Patient: I did. I think being my age it seems everybody I know is having shoulder problems. I just talked to fellow that, uh...
...I wind surf with that actually used the same surgeon as I did.
Patient: I recommended uh, you know told him about Jeff. I said you know when it comes time to get therapy, check it out at least.
