Before high school, learning seemed to be so much fun and less stress-free.
Every day, I can wake up early in the morning and be ready to go to school and learn.
It was effortless to keep in mind the things we learned in class.
I miss the times when we learned how to read and write,
add and subtract numbers, learn about plants, planets, and more wonderful things that kept us curious.
This fulfills the purpose of education which is to teach and show us things we didn't know existed, and explore new possibilities.
It allows us to discover who we really are by being able to be creative with our thoughts without limits or expectations.
Now, school seems to be all about getting good grades and passing courses in order to keep moving to the next level.
The objective has switched from learning to obtaining the diploma or the degree.
The education system demotivates students by setting high standards that are to be met in order to be considered successful.
In addition to that, teachers generalize the students' way of learning.
Students then expect themselves to meet these standards thus competition arises in classes which can be demotivating to those who are not capable of performing really well.
In high school, we students learn how to pass our courses through memorization and all-nighters.
How will knowing how to pass our classes rather than gaining knowledge and developing skills help us in life?
Students do not learn by stuffing a bunch of information in their head the night before a test.
Because the education system has put out there different kinds of awards, students feel the responsibility and feel pressured to attain these accomplishments for the sake of being recognized.
Students in high school start to fear making mistakes for they develop a mindset of achieving to be perfect in order to get somewhere in life.
Something needs to be done to improve our education system to have less students pulling their hair out during exam week, losing hope in class and lots of sleep.
A piece of paper with a degree on it does not determine who you are.
Regardless of what you are actually capable of, you are a part of the future,
you have power
and you hold the key to your own success.
