Hello, I’m Rachael Ruble
with FiberLine Communications.
Thank you for joining us
for this discussion about
international MPLS networks.
International MPLS
allows businesses
to network locations
both inside and outside
of the United States.
Virtually any location
in the world
that has access to bandwidth
can be included in an
international MPLS network.
MPLS provides
any-to-any network
connectivity between locations.
MPLS networks can operate
over Ethernet, DS3, OC3, T1, Bonded T1,
and E1 or E3 outside the United States
MPLS is an acronym
for Multiprotocol Label Switching.
When compared to other types
of networks, MPLS, (Multiprotocol Label Switching) networks
facilitate greater flexibility
in the management of network traffic.
MPLS networks include CoS (Class of Service).
CoS allows the ability to prioritize network traffic.
Data packet prioritization
enables the ability
to run many applications
over a single network.
For example,
an MPLS network with CoS
can facilitate applications like voice,
video conferencing, email,
and high priority data transfer
simultaneously and efficiently
over a single network.
Another advantage of MPLS,
is that because it provides
any-to-any connectivity,
if service at one location
is interrupted,
the entire network
does not go down,
and all other locations
continue the ability
to communicate with each another.
Any-to-any connectivity
offers the additional advantage
of redundant data backup.
For example, with MPLS,
all data stored at the primary data center,
can be duplicated
at other locations on the network.
For example,
with an international MPLS network,
data could be duplicated
at data centers in other countries.
With this type of backup,
if the primary data center goes down,
all data could be accessed
in real-time
from one of the back-up data centers,
with virtually no disruption in operations. For international circuits,
MPLS is often
more cost effective
than point-to-point private lines,
because the price
for point-to-point
must include the cost of long haul,
or distance between locations.
With MPLS,
you do not pay
for the distance between locations;
instead, you only pay for each location on the network.
Domestic MPLS quotes,
for locations within the US,
can often be obtained
on the same day of inquiry.
However, international MPLS quotes
often take much more time.
This is because
the price charged by each
local telecom company,
in each country
where a network location is located,
must be obtained or negotiated.
For large international networks,
it is not uncommon to take several days,
if not weeks to finalize MPLS quotes.
