This is Annemieke van der Heide, The founder of ,,Casa Ana"
,,Casa Ana" is one of the projects of Foundation Phoneo
Annemieke goes every morning at 11 o' clock to Petelea to pick up the kids for the day.
Hello, Welcome! I was just about to pick up the kids.
2,5 years ago I came to work at Phoneo
They asked me to start a kids church in the village of "Petelea"
We started with a very small group of kids, but this little group has grown very much in a very short time.
In 6 months we had already 60 kids, and within a year we had about 180 kids.
And then I realized that these kids didn't just need a simple program where people take care of them..
But that they needed the love and attention that they do not receive at home
And that gave me the idea of starting a house where the kids can come in the day time to play or get a drink..
And simply receive the love and attention that they needed
We are going now to Petelea to pick up the kids who can come today
Today's turn is the yellow group of 8 kids. Every group has a different color that is on the list.
So the kids that are not on the yellow list can not come today.
Annemieke has a total of 35 kids. She has divided these kids in 5 different groups of 7-8 kids each.
Each day she picks up 2 different groups.
The first group is picked up in the morning and is brought back at 2 o' clock.
Then the second group steps into the van for the afternoon program
The reason why Annemieke does it this way..
is because she can invest and give personal attention to each child
than if the 35 kids would come all in the same time.
Annemieke has just arrived in Petelea and the kids come running from everywhere towards her.
"Did you all come?" "Where is Romeo?"
"Oh, there you are! I see you have all come today. So nice!"
- I come also today! -No, it is not your turn today.
"Everyone step in and fasten your seatbelt."
The first thing they always do when they arrive
is sit together at the table, have a drink, tell their stories and sing songs.
We see that the kids are really changing since they come to Casa Ana
They come here once a week. And next to that they also go to the kids programs that we have.
And then there is a small group of kids that go since October
to a kindergarten that my colleagues do.
And through all this we see that the kids are doing so much better.
They learned to speak better Romanian, they learned to play nice with each other and they don't fight for toys anymore
Cleaning up has become a game instead of a challange.
And saying 'please' and 'thank you' and 'waiting on your turn' goes a lot better.
It is nice to see that together as a foundation we can make this difference in the lives of these kids
- Does anybody still need to wash their hands? - Yes!
Kids are very important in the Kingdom of God.
The things that they learn and receive now, will make a big difference in who they will become later
Thanks to "Casa Ana" these kids receive the love and attention that they need so much
So that their future life may change in a possitive way!
