Now,today we're focusing on matters of the heart
the heart is a muscle just like your biceps, your quads, and it's about the size of a
clenched fist
the average heart pumps nearly four thousand gallons of blood everyday and
beats thirty million times a year so we've got to take care of it right?
well a good way to condition the old ticker is a pose called the supported
shoulder stand and i'm gonna show you how it's done right now, jamie's going to
help (come on up)
we'll start off on the back
now, check this out at home simply lay flat on your back you can draw the knees into your chest so
it's nice and comfortable and from here just simply draw the legs straight-up
this is a great and very safe modification so if you have any injuries neck injuries
shoulder problems this is probably where you want to start out you get a lot of
the benifits in the pose just with the simple modification
feeling comfortable you want to check out the full pose
just simply lift the hips and draw the hands into the small the back and press the legs to
the sky
now again the breath is a barometer here
if you begin to lose your fluid breath i'd like you to back off that usually means it's
too intense again it's not worth it
careful in the neck it's a shoulder stand so most of the weight is on the
shoulders or the elbows again you can support yourself with your hands
on the small of the back
now just a few breaths here will provide a lot of benefits and on each inhale you're
lifting the toes a little higher on the exhale you're pressing the hips forward
again acclimating and letting this body process exactly what's going on
all you need is a few breaths here let the body acclimate again while the world's upside down
(beautiful job Jamie) to safely come out of it simply release your hands
and fold the body down (beautiful) winding up on your back
nice and safe
excellent excellent job (thank you very much)
now the supported shoulder stand conditions are hard as we spoke up it
also calm the brain and help you deal with stress
it actually will fight mild depression and of course it strengthens
the shoulders the back the core and the arms most importantly again you'll
be calm when the world's upside down it's a great technique to condition the heart
muscle so use it, try this at home!
