In this short demo we will connect to a database to create a MicroStrategy metadata
and then setup and configure the MicroStrategy Intelligence server.
MicroStrategy metadata can store many BI applications that contain
thousands of reporting objects used by all business users to make better
decisions every day.
The configuration wizard guides you through the setup in three distinct steps
by first creating a metadata repository
second establishing an intelligence server connection to the metadata and thirdly
setting up project sources that point to the new metadata.
First we will create a metadata using an ODBC connection
which points to the database.
MicroStrategy metadata consists of a set or predefined database tables
stored in a relational database such as SQL server or Oracle.
An interactive wizard
fully automates the metadata creation process.
One single metadata can store many BI applications serving different
functions in your organization.
For example, Salesforce automation field for your sales department
or benefits analysis for human resources.
All reports and object definitions associated with the BI application are
stored in the metadata.
Every object definition is reusable and can be shared across each application.
These reusable objects allow changes to be immediately propagated to all reports
and all other objects that use them
which greatly reduces overall BI maintenance.
Now that we finished creating the MicroStrategy metadata
let's set up the MicroStrategy Intelligent server.
As you saw before, we'll set up the intelligence server using an ODBC connection.
Intelligence server is the industry's most advanced, scalable, secure, and robust
business intelligence server
and provides the core analytical processing and job management
for all reporting analysis and monitoring applications.
Implying a services-oriented architecture
MicroStrategy Intelligence server makes it these easy to standardize
on a single open platform
for all your enterprise reporting and analysis needs through a number of
different access channels
including web browsers and corporate portals
Microsoft Office
desktop clients, file servers, smart phones, and email.
Finally, we'll need to define a project source that allows MicroStrategy applications
to identified and collect to the intelligence server we've just defined.
MicroStrategy enables corporations to confidently address all security
requirements by providing a robust user security infrastructure.
Additionally
MicroStrategy integrates seamlessly with external security systems such as LDAP
database security and Windows authentication
After completing this third and final step, we're now ready to start building
BI applications into the metadata.
You've seen how the metadata infrastructure is configured in these
three distinct steps with MicroStrategy Intelligence server, which is the most
advanced, scalable, secured and robust businesses intelligence server.
