Gastrocnemius-Soleus Stretch Exercise Here, we're demonstrating the Gastroc and
Soleus stretch which can be done behind a chair or leaning against a wall.
The exercise will be performed with both feet flat on the ground, leaning forward, flexing
the forward foot and knee. The Gastroc stretch should be felt in the back leg, in the calf
and possibly behind the knee region. The Soleus stretch will be performed by pushing
the knee of the back leg down towards the floor, and the stretch should be felt in behind
the ankle. Both stretches should be performed at 30 second
hold times, three repetitions, both sides. Gastroc-Soleus stretch performed on a block.
This stretch is performed by placing the edge of the foot to be stretched off the edge of
the step or block, pushing the heel downwards. The stretch is to be held for 30 seconds.
When performed with the knee extended, you're stretching the Gastroc muscle. When performed
with the knee flexed, it is the Soleus muscle that's being stretched.
Both stretches should be performed 30 seconds, three sets.
