If you do have PIP implants, how do you claim compensation? Well, this is a
very, very difficult issue for you. The first thing is, normally, if there is a problem
with an implant, you would claim against the company that makes it. But unfortunately the
PIP company has gone into liquidation. So you are unable to claim against the PIP company.
With our patients, we generally recommend implants from a large company, such Allergan
or Nagor, because these companies have got much bigger backing, they're much larger.
Allergan, for instance, make Botox and are a multinational, American company. So if there
was problem with any of their implants, it's very unlikely they're going to go into liquidation
and they would sort the problem out for you. But unfortunately, this isn't the case with
the PIP company. The other area you could look at is the regulating body, which gave
the PIP the CE mark. This is an European agency, and some people are pursuing this. If you
paid with a credit card, some of our patients have had refunds through the Faulty Foods
Act via credit card. So if you did pay with a credit card, I think talk to your credit
card provider about that. We do have a number of patients who have been refunded the money.
Unfortunately, many of our patients have been treated by some of the major medical groups,
and one of the larger ones has recently gone into liquidation, which essentially means
that any liabilities for their patients are held in the old company, which is liquidated,
and their operating business, marketing and all the staff work for another company now.
So it's been moved. So it was sort of a very clever manoeuvre to avoid any issues with
patients' compensation. Unfortunately, as far as I'm concerned, we have talked to some
lawyers on this. I think it will be very difficult to get any compensation from the companies
that have done this because it is legal, unfortunately, for this to happen. If you'd like any more
information about the issues, there are PIP Help Groups. I think it might be worthwhile,
if you are seeking compensation and you're finding it very difficult, to join in with
one of these. There are a number of lawyers who are discussing mass actions and the best
way to go forward. So if you have paid for it on a credit card, perhaps go to your credit
card company. But if you haven't, it might be worth joining one of these groups. That
way you can get together and work out the best way of seeking compensation for your
PIP implants, which have caused such a problem. h)tg h9&x h9&x h)tg If you do have the PIP
